At Propel, our mission is to build modern, respectful, and effective financial tools for low-income Americans. Over 5 million people use our app Providers, previously called FreshEBT, to manage the benefits they use to keep their family well-fed and healthy, stay up to date on critical government programs, save money and earn income. This role is on Propel’s Government and Policy team and will lead efforts to build on Propel’s success as a trusted voice on the experiences of households who interact with the social safety net. You will understand how financial services, including social safety net programs and policies, impact households and will share these findings publicly. The person in this role is responsible for leading research of households who use the Providers app, synthesizing findings to support partnership efforts, and leading broader communications to share learnings via social media, newsletters, reports, webinars and memos.

- Propel believes that everyone should be compensated fairly and equitably. We set our salary ranges using compensation data from hundreds of NYC based startups at our stage. Additionally, pay is not determined based on location. The salary range for this position is $120,000-$145,000 depending on experience. Equity and excellent benefits come with this position as well!
You'll Do:
- Define and execute on the strategy to position Propel as a trusted source of data and insights on the experience of low-income Americans navigating government benefits and financial services
- Develop a role as a public-facing thought leader to share Propel’s research insights with press, at conferences, and via reports, articles, memos and social media
- Design and host research roundtables with leading experts and publish reports with findings
- Launch and analyze a monthly survey, collecting over 5,000 responses monthly from households who use the Providers app
- Lead analysis of monthly user surveys and additional surveys. Present this synthesis internally and externally and update analysis with input, requests and feedback from the team
- Understand policy goals and work with Propel’s policy leads and cross-functional teams to identify policies and content areas to focus research and forthcoming reports
- Partner with Policy Leads to prepare materials and reports for external conversations
- Develop relationships with external research partners, including academics, think tanks, and government agencies to support research that furthers Propel’s mission
You Have:
- Experience scoping, shaping, conducting, and analyzing qualitative and quantitative research rounds, including familiarity with survey methodology quantitative analysis via Excel or another quantitative analysis tool
- Exceptional and proven written communication and storytelling skills for public consumption
- Comfort finding a balance between research rigor and speed
- Knowledge of social safety net policy and program implementation details (e.g. SNAP, SSA, EITC, CTC)
- Incredible attention to detail -- you automatically double- and triple-check your work
- Orientation to get stuff done -- you fight through ambiguity, learn new skills, and bias toward action
- Curiosity -- you’re excited to do different things and to field the occasional surprise
- Humility -- you expect and want to learn from our users
- Deep desire to help fulfill Propel's mission of building modern, effective, and respectful tools for low-income Americans
- 5 years work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Spanish speaking - comfortable reading and writing in Spanish
- Experience with Amplitude, Metabase/SQL, or other quantitative analytics tools.
Salary : $120,000 - $145,000
