What are the responsibilities and job description for the Network Engineer Internship - Summer 2023 position at Protolabs External?

This internship will be a hybrid role with flexibility to come to our HQ campus in Maple Plain, MN.

You will:

  • Assist with provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, firmware and software and related infrastructure
  • Maintain and monitor all network-based applications, connectivity, and hardware to ensure system availability.
  • Promote standardization across technical environments, driving changes when necessary for architectural improvements, supportability, and reliability
  • Plan and perform hardware and firmware upgrades and network security maintenance proactive and reactive and projects.
  • Assist with documentation efforts
  • Automation, scripting of routine tasks
  • Other duties as assigned
  • May require after-hours work

About You:

  • Junior or Senior seeking information technology-related degree with a focus on networking (Information Technology, Computer Science)
  • Intermediate understanding of networking experience and skill set (OSI model, Cisco certification/knowledge, LAN (L2), WAN (L3), VPN service/server, WLAN (wireless), Storage (iSCSI), Voice (VOIP)
  • Intermediate understanding of Microsoft (Excel, Word, Powerpoint) skills
  • General knowledge of Microsoft, Linux, and cloud technologies
  • General knowledge of virtualization, hardware, Operating systems, and storage technologies
  • Familiarity  with scripting experience and automation tools (config. as code)
  • Diagram creation (Visio) and documentation familiarity
  • Experience/ familiarity with network tools to perform tasks such as packet capturing and network analysis
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft technologies like Windows Server, Exchange, 0365, Azure, etc
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required to interface with diverse groups such as end users, developers, management, and support staff.
  • Detail-oriented and ability to operate in a self-directed mode
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to self-prioritize and work on multiple projects in parallel
  • Outgoing and passionate about networking and technology
