TITLE: Teacher, 6-8

We are hiring for English, Life Science, Latin, and Art for the 2023-2024 school year.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related subject required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Previous teaching experience with middle-school-aged children preferred
  • Maintain a positive, highly efficient, organized, professional, and confidential manner in job execution
  • Knowledge and practical experience regarding basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Born again Christian who knows the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior (John 3:3, 1 Peter 1:23) and views the Bible as the only inerrant, infallible, and inspired Word of God (II Timothy 3:16)
  • High moral character and good attendance record

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: When performing activities throughout the day related to the education of students, the teacher spends much of the day standing in the classroom. He or she must walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks, etc. Dealing with the students can entail kneeling or squatting, stooping, and bending from 50-70 degrees at the waist on an occasional to frequent basis. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.

REPORTS TO: Middle School Principal

POSITION OVERVIEW: The middle school teacher serves in a leadership role to establish a middle-level program that promotes social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and intellectual growth by providing rigorous and engaging experiences. The middle school teacher establishes an effective rapport with students and motivates students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to have a good foundation for advanced study and career exploration, in accordance with each student’s ability. The middle school teacher creates and maintains good relationships with parents and other faculty and staff members.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans and develops an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and Providence Academy’s curriculum guidelines.
  • Designs and presents individual lesson plans in one or more academic subjects using a variety of teaching techniques that appeal to various learning styles and methods.
  • Prepares materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates (formally and informally) student knowledge and understanding; grades student work in a timely manner.
  • Promotes and provides a comfortable and orderly classroom environment that fosters constructive relationships, facilitates student engagement, promotes learning and is appropriate for the physical, social, spiritual, and emotional development of the students.
  • Establishes and enforces rules for positive behavior and procedures for maintaining a learning culture among the students.
  • Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to requirements.
  • Communicates all progress and concerns (academic, behavior, and social) with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate the Student Services department, and the principal.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents.
  • Presents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom and administers discipline according to the policies of Providence Academy.
  • Maintains accurate records for individual students including grades, attendance, behavior, and other necessary records.
  • Enforces safety and security standards for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Establishes and maintains open communications with students and parents.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars.
  • Maintains knowledge of research, development, and best practices in middle grades education.
  • Performs other extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, responsible, and Christ-like.
  • Agrees with the core values, statement of faith, and mission statement of Providence Academy.
  • Receives and maintains ACSI Certification.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The middle school teacher supervises students and is responsible for the overall management, instruction, and evaluation of the students in the classroom, throughout the school grounds, and on educational trips. The middle school teacher carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Providence Academy’s policies and applicable state laws.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-Month Position, Salary per Faculty Schedule

EVALUATION: Annually, by Middle School Principal
