Overview
The Psychology Department of Providence College invites applications for a Research Associate Position, funded by NIH via RI-INBRE. The Research Associate will provide research support and serve as a laboratory manager for the Providence College Human Psychophysiology (PC-HPL) Laboratory, comprising Dr. Morris and approximately 8-10 undergraduate students. The successful applicant will perform electrophysiological research under the direction of Dr. Morris, investigating the neural correlates of word reading, with special focus on complex words.
Essential Duties:
The successful candidate will have prior experience in a lab environment and show interest in language-related and psychophysiological research. He or she will be able to work independently, show meticulous attention to detail, and be able to organize priorities among multiple tasks. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to troubleshoot issues and problem-solve.
Major responsibilities are to:
A – train and coordinate a team of undergraduate level research assistants,

B – help design research studies and collect using a variety of methods including behavioral response times and accuracy rates, event-related potentials, and computational modelling,
C – help with data management and statistical analysis data,
D – coordinate and schedule laboratory testing and resources, and
E – maintain equipment, lab spaces, participant registry, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) records.

Marginal Duties:
Education and Experience Required
Bachelor’s degree in cognitive science, neuroscience, psychology, computer science, linguistics or another closely related field is required. Experience with ERP methods, scripting/programming (ideally in R / Matlab / Python or similar) and statistical analysis is strongly preferred.
