Providence is calling a Dietetic Technician (Nutritional Services, Day Shift, 0.0 FTE) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

In this position you will:

  • Ensures that medical nutrition therapy is optimized by assisting patients in the daily application of therapeutic diet prescriptions.
  • Assists with evaluation of menus. Performs and documents for the health care team the results of calorie counts when ordered.
  • Establishes work priorities and determines appropriate procedures from established work standards. Responsible for basic nutrition education as directed by dietitian. Assists in determining the need for additional nutrition education and refers to dietitian for further education as appropriate.
  • Accurately record calorie counts, interventions and education in the medical record using accepted charting formats and forms. Is responsible for communication of nutrition recommendations, plans and needs to all members of the health care team. Updates Registered Dietitians with pertinent information.
  • Consults with patients, physicians, nursing staff, therapists, pharmacists, co-workers and other members of the patient care team keeping them informed of patient's nutritional progress. Acts as the communication link between the patient and the Dietary Department as appropriate.
  • Strong communication skills are critical to managing interactions with a wide variety of people from differing literacy levels, languages and cultures. Writing skills are necessary for documentation in the medical record, as well as providing written information for home use. Prepares and presents in-service training for dietary, nutrition staff and interdisciplinary staff throughout the service area under the direction of a dietitian as requested.
  • Develops performance improvement plans and/or collects data for individual areas of practice based upon benchmarked statistics, patient, staff or visitor suggestions or complaints, or professional observation and assessment as directed by Clinical Nutrition Manager.
  • Maintains inventories of patient education materials such as introductory medical nutritional therapy brochures, tray tent explanations of therapeutic restrictions and tray-related general nutrition education information. .
  • Completes initial and annual Competency Plan for assigned job and department.
  • Food Service Software recipe analysis as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate Degree in Food and Nutrition or related field
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year of hospital experience in food service or other health care related field
