Providence is calling a Lead Medical Research Associate (1.0 FTE, Day) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR
The Innate Immunology Laboratory at the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute at Providence Cancer Institute is seeking highly motivated Research Associate Lead. Led by Terry R. Medler, Ph.D., the laboratory utilizes genetically engineered murine models of cancer that closely recapitulate human disease to understand dominant mechanisms by which the innate immune system fosters neoplasia and regulates the response to cancer therapeutics. We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a passion for cancer research. Experience in cell culture, flow cytometry/FACS, molecular biology, immunological techniques, and in vivo experimentation are major assets.
The Lead Medical Research Associate will assist the Laboratory Chief in the planning, organization, implementation, and design of research activities in the Cancer Research laboratories. Scientific and administrative duties are performed independently under the supervision of the Laboratory Chief. Assists and provides expertise for the research activities of new laboratory members, research fellows, graduate students, etc.
In addition you will have the following responsibilities:
- Assist the Laboratory Chief in planning the short- and long-term goals of the research
- Originate and develop new techniques that facilitate the research goals of the program
- Perform the research necessary and evaluate the quality of research to reach the established goals
- Be cognizant of potentially hazardous chemical, biological, or radiological materials; use personal protective equipment; and adhere to strict safety protocols
- Use appropriate and reliable documentation, follow uniform reporting standards, and provide information by maintaining effective procedures and preparing periodic reports
- Oversee laboratory activities, including oversight of staff, especially in absence of Laboratory Chief
- Provide leadership by assisting, training, and providing expertise for the research activities of new laboratory members, research fellows, graduate students, etc.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position includes:
- Bachelor's Degree with major courses in the field of research
- Five (5) years of research lab experience
- Perform with minimal supervision in a team-like atmosphere
- Excellent problem-solving skills and be innovative
- Be highly organized
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Bachelor's Degree with major courses in appropriate biomedical field
- Able to maintain flexible hours including evenings and weekends
