SUMMARY: The Payroll Manager serves as the subject matter expert and actioner of all end-to-end payroll and 1099 related processes including processing and auditing all payrolls, adjustments, and final pay. This role is responsible for delivering timely and accurate payroll processing in addition to all third-party Informational requirements. This position continually identifies gaps in audit reporting and promotes efficient operational processes while adhering to regulatory rules and regulations. Close collaboration with other departments within the organization is crucial.
The Payroll Manager must portray a professional and service-oriented image while exercising discretion in dealing with sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality. In an ever-changing environment, the Payroll Manager must be able to adapt and ask questions to ensure any change is consistent with practices and/or exceptions already in place.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties included but are not limited too:
- Ensure successful biweekly and monthly W2 payroll execution by validating and maintaining data integrity and processing all payroll transactions accurately and timely.
- Ensure successful biweekly and monthly 1099 payroll execution by validating and maintaining data integrity and processing all payroll transactions accurately and timely.
- Verify tax compliance for all jurisdictions as well as federal and state wage and hour laws.
- Manage garnishment administration including setup and remittance.
- Manage all Schwab 410k administration including setup, remittance, and annual audit requirements.
- Assist Accounting and HR with GL reconciliation for differences between benefit billing and actual employee withholdings.
- Collaborate, consult, and partner with all levels within the organization to ensure appropriate flow of data and reporting allowing for informed decision making.
- Develop and maintain strong working relations with third party vendors and auditors to provide necessary confidential data to ensure satisfaction of requirements.
- Create reports and schedule/execute jobs within payroll system to assist in analyzing business needs and/or providing resolution to payroll issues.
- Provide support and leadership related to payroll and timekeeping questions, concerns, policies, and procedures.
- Develop and maintain procedural documentation for the payroll/timekeeping process.
- Drive continuous improvement to processes, service delivery and technology.
- Conduct thorough testing and validation of any system enhancements prior to installation.
- Perform other duties as required within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the job.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: An associate degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business, or an equivalent combination of relevant work experience is required. BA/BS is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of seven (7) years' experience processing multi-state payroll. General knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Organization Skills: Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required. Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
License/Certification: Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
Communication: Superior communication (oral and written) and listening skills, proven team building success and a customer service mind set are required. Must communicate professionally and effectively at all levels within the organization. Ability to listen outside of what is being said and ask questions to identify the real need of what others are requesting.
Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Paylocity a plus.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to prioritize assignments, manage time to meet critical deadlines and manage multiple projects and tasks while maintaining focus on quality, accuracy, and customer service without direct supervision. Ability to professionally exercise discretion with sensitive and confidential information by having an unquestionable commitment to high ethical standards and personal integrity. Ability to analyze data findings to provide problem resolution.
