Job Description

Production Supervisor

Function: 

The Production Supervisor has working Supervision of the Production personnel in the Welding Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Delegated responsibility for the direction, planing, and scheduling of the respective weld mill operation personnel and equipment in the most effective manner for the production of welded and stretch reduced tubes.

Coordinates with schedulers, other foremen, supervisors and personnel in all departments for the best quality and production.

Directs personnel to maintain production and shipping schedules.  Takes appropriate action to resolve issues that would interfere with such schedules.

Constantly monitors quality within the area of responsibility.

Keep the Department Superintendent and Quality Department informed of any issues pertaining to quality and exercise action to resolve or remedy such issues.

Coordinates with other supervisors to manage manpower and cover open jobs created by vacation or report-off.

Is knowledgeable of the Union contract.  Administrate such contract to maintain a good working relationship with the Union.

Counsels and disciplines as required in accordance with the Labor Agreement and/or Company policies.

Develops and trains all personnel within the area of responsibility.

Communicates work orders, coordinates maintenance efforts and interfaces with maintenance to maintain or improve equipment repairs.

Keeps Department Superintendent informed of all major repairs or breakdowns.

Coordinates with Department Superintendent in holding regular meetings with crew members.

Assists operation support personnel or Department Superintendent on special projects or requests.

Maintains the clerical records (computer inputting) for the area of responsibility; such as, manpower, work orders, attaching environmental labels, editing production reports, etc.

Administers all work rules, all safety work rules and practices established by the Department Superintendent and the Alliance Plant Management.  Make recommendations on improvements in the area of safety management.

Administers all performance and housekeeping guidelines established by the Department Superintendent and the Alliance Plant Management.

Communicates to subordinates and the Department Superintendent of trends, events or occurrences that will impact the operation.

Informs the Department Superintendent of all equipment, tooling, and supplies needed to operate the weld mills.

Maintains departmental labor costs and expenses within the guidelines established by the Department Superintendent.

Evaluates and assists operators as required.

Performs monitoring of the state of equipment, e.g., roll wear, lubrication, etc., and checks equipment for preventative maintenance requirements.

Performs other duties as required.

Job Requirements

 

Education and/or Experience: 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) one or more years of related supervisory experience and/or training.

Number of Employees Reporting Directly:  8 to 15

Directly supervises 8 to 15 mill production employees in the Welding Department. 

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must be computer literate and able to learn and use HP programs such as e-mail, established programs, etc.
