Job Description

Function:  Maintains the plant Quality Program and supporting documentation to appropriate standards and corporate policy and guidelines.  Works with plant staff and support functions to monitor, control and reduce the overall cost of poor quality (COPQ).  Represents the company and its customer-driven, quality-focused approach both internally, and externally with customers, suppliers, and external auditors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Quality Responsibilities:  The incumbent is expected to understand that all employees have a shared responsibility for the quality of products and related services provided to our customers.  Duties and responsibilities are to be carried out in accordance with the PTCA Quality Management System and its policies, procedures, and work instructions as applicable to the job being performed.

Primary responsibility for reviewing and auditing adherence to the company quality manual, company level procedures, and plant or department work instructions.  Assists plant in quality planning and implementation of quality system related procedures.

A Driver of Continual Improvement through:

  • Analysis of COPQ causes and coordination of appropriate corrective measures;
  • Monitoring of customer claims and complaints and coordination of responses and corrective actions;
  • Participation in internal audits at home plant and other PTCA facilities as scheduled;
  • Follow-up on audit findings and assigned actions from management reviews.

Technical Resource:

  • Answers technical and personnel questions raised by subordinates and directs quality training for the plant as required.
  • Reviews technical problems and procedures of departments and recommends solutions to problems or changes in procedures.
  • Reviews technical publications, articles, and abstracts to stay abreast of technical developments in industry.
  • Maintains affiliations with appropriate technical and/or professional organizations or associations.  Including but not limited to ASQ, AIAG.

Trains plant personnel on Quality System, including Quality Policy, Quality Manual, and applicable Quality Procedures

Hosts outside auditors, inspectors, suppliers, and customers with respect to quality, specifications, audits, and customer surveillance visits.

Performs other duties as required.

Job Requirements

Education: Four-year college degree or equivalent with 7 - 10 years of experience in quality.

Qualification Requirements:  The incumbent must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty to perform this job successfully.  The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, and/or public groups.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply basic algebraic concepts to practical situations.

Reasoning and Problem Solving Ability:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and specifications in written or diagram form, including drawings, and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.

Other Skills and Abilities:  Must be computer literate and able to work with standard programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), and be able to learn and use the company’s ERP software, as applicable.

Ability to read and interpret customer drawings, and specifications.

Familiarity with and understanding of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 Quality Management Systems.  ISO/IATF Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Must possess a valid driver’s license and passport for business travel for customer visits, attending required meetings or seminars, etc.
