Our Mission The PCAOB oversees the audits of public companies and SEC-registered brokers and dealers in order to protect investors and further the public interest in the preparation of informative, accurate, and independent audit reports. Job Description The PCAOB has full-time, regular positions for Inspections Associates in the Division of Registration and Inspections (DRI). DRI inspects registered public accounting firms in connection with the firm’s performance of audits, issuance of audit reports, and related matters involving U.S. companies, other issuers, brokers, and dealers. The Inspections Associate role will participate in inspections of registered public accounting firms. This role will also directly contribute to the PCAOB’s mission of protecting investors. Responsibilities Assist in inspecting portions of audit work papers to assess the degree of compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the rules of the Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and professional standards in connection with the performance of audits, issuance of reports, and related matters involving issuers or broker-dealers. Assist in assessing the firms’ quality control structures and the related impact these structures have on audit quality. Use varying degrees of independence and sound judgment to drive issues to resolution and to achieve results. Meet and assist with interviewing firm personnel to (1) understand the firms’ quality control structures, (2) understand the audit approach to audit engagements, and (3) further develop and/or identify quality control and/or audit deficiencies. Gather and organize information to support identified inspection issues. Research technical issues. Draft comment forms. Communicate inspection findings to firm personnel in meetings. Collaborate with highly skilled inspection teams. Participate in inspection projects aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the inspection program. Qualifications Education/Technical Expertise Current CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) license or eligible for CPA licensure in work state. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or in a technology related field. Three to five years of recent progressively responsible experience in public accounting. Attainment of the level of senior at a public accounting firm. Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and/or international financial reporting standards. Demonstrated strong performance working in team environments. Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to travel 20-30% of time (including some non-U.S. travel). Preferred Qualifications MBA/Master’s degree. Experience (1) in the audit of publicly traded companies on the U.S. markets, (2) in the areas of IT general controls and application and process controls, or (3) in the area of broker-dealer regulations, including Rule 15c3-1 (net capital), Rule 15c3-3 (customer reserve, possession or control, exemptions), and Rule 17a-5 (broker-dealer reporting, including financial statements and supplemental schedules, compliance reports, and exemption reports. Knowledge of PCAOB standards. Fluency in a foreign language.
