Development Writer
Publicolor seeks a strategic and passionate Development Writerto join our team. This person must be highly motivated, hyper-organized, detail-oriented, committed, and a team player. The Development Writer will act as editor and writer for Publicolor’s Development Team, producing proposals, applications, letters of inquiry, reports, and materials for various fundraising projects.
Publicolor is a 28-year-old educational/youth development organization in New York City that engages high-risk students in their education through a multi-day, multi-year continuum of design-based programs that empower them for success in school, college, career, and life. Unlike most youth organizations focusing on high-achieving, low-income students, Publicolor deliberately focuses on students at high risk of dropping out. Our project-based learning models succeed in engaging them in their education year-round.
About the role:
This is a full-time position. The ideal candidate will be an integral part of the Development team, believe strongly in the potential of underachieving low-income students, and build upon a successful fundraising program.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Director of Institutional Giving and the Development team, which includes a Director of Corporate and Individual Giving, Director of Government Relations, and Director of Events, as well as the Founder President, in developing relationships.
- Write foundation letters of inquiry, proposals, applications, and reports.
- Collaborate with the Development team to write a wide range of documents, such asIndividual and family foundation proposals and reports, Government applications and reports, an Annual Report, special event collateral, and annual appeals.
- Coordinate data entry related to funder relationship activities, submissions, and outcomes with the Database Manager.
- Develop a deep knowledge of the core programs and operations and work with program directors to confirm program data.
- Ensure that Publicolor effectively communicates the results of its programs.
- As needed, be available to work during the annual gala and other events.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least 5 years of relevant experience fundraising in the nonprofit sector.
- Ability to articulate Publicolor’s mission and programs creatively and compellingly.
- Must be a gifted writer and a clear communicator.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Publicolor staff across various functions.
- An analytical and strategic thinker with good judgment and common sense.
- Passion for excellence and equity in public education.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $75,000

Schedule: Monday to Friday – 4 days in the office, 1 day working from home, and two Saturdays per month at one of our school painting sites.
