Job Summary
The Adult Softball League in Pueblo West is seeking a dedicated Softball Umpire to officiate games and ensure compliance with USSSA rules. This role requires a passion for softball, a commitment to fair play, and the ability to handle game-related conflicts professionally. The umpire will work closely with players and league officials to provide a safe, fair, and enjoyable experience for all participants.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Officiate adult softball games according to United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) rules and regulations.
- Ensure a fair, safe, and enjoyable playing environment for all participants.
- Maintain professional conduct and enforce standards of sportsmanship.
- Monitor the game environment for safety hazards, reporting concerns to league coordinators.
- Communicate effectively with players, coaches, and league officials before, during, and after games.
Knowledge
- Strong understanding of softball rules and regulations as outlined by USSSA.
- Awareness of game safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of conflict resolution techniques applicable in sports settings.
Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong decision-making abilities under pressure.
- Ability to manage disputes calmly and effectively.
Abilities
- Capable of maintaining concentration and focus for extended periods.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat or occasional rain.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training, and experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted.)
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Preferred: Certification as a USSSA (U-trip) official.
- Applicants not currently certified can obtain certification upon employment.
- Previous umpiring or relevant sports officiating experience is highly valued.
- Must pass a background check.
- Preferred: CPR and AED Certified
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- This is a part-time hourly position.
- Game schedules are primarily during weekday evenings between 5pm and 10pm.
- Umpires can expect to work multiple games per week during the season.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to stand and move quickly for periods up to several hours.
- Ability to work outdoors and navigate various field conditions.
- Must be physically able to perform all activities related to softball officiating, including but not limited to, bending, running, and lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally.
