Pumpkin is looking for a seasoned, versatile Copywriter who loves animals, believes pets are family, and wants to work at a mission-driven company.
As an integral member of our Experience team, your creativity, strategic thinking, and writing expertise will be harnessed to engage and educate pet parents about the importance of pet insurance and the life-changing veterinary care it can enable. A passionate storyteller with a growth mindset (and great sense of humor!), you’ll help elevate Pumpkin’s brand voice and create breakthrough marketing campaigns, compelling branded content, and digital experiences that inspire pet parents to invest in their pet’s health with Pumpkin’s insurance and wellness products.
Working closely with our Creative Director, Designers, Marketing, and Product teams, you’ll develop impactful creative solutions that tackle business objectives at every stage of the customer journey – from print materials, TV spots, and PR activations to build awareness, to digital media, emails, and landing pages to drive acquisition, to online tools, social media, and blog content to increase engagement and retention.
This role offers a unique opportunity to leverage your copywriting skills, concept chops, and marketing know-how to make a meaningful difference in the lives of pets and their people.
This will be a hybrid position, with a minimum requirement of 2-3 days a week in the New York City office.
\n- Develop and write creative concepts, marketing campaigns, and communications that build our brand presence, connect with pet owners & veterinarians, and drive acquisition across a range of channels, including Web, Mobile, Print, TV / Video, Email, Social Media, SEO, PR, Event/Experiential, Podcast, and more
- Create engaging content and experiences to inform pet owners about pet health, insurance, and Pumpkin products – and help customers use them with ease
- Evolve and elevate Pumpkin’s Voice, brand messaging, and product language as our company grows and the needs of our audiences change
- Work with our Creative Director and Marketing team to review creative briefs, develop project plans, and ensure creative solutions meet strategic objectives
- Inform and support A/B testing and regularly leverage performance data & insights to optimize creative assets and improve their impact and effectiveness
- Lead marketing creative initiatives from concept through execution, working with a cross-functional team and (at times) partners or vendors to bring the creative vision to life, incorporate feedback, and deliver on business goals
- Co-lead multi-channel content planning and calendar development each quarter alongside other creative and marketing leads
- Thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment and welcome the opportunity to learn, grow, and help create a better world for pets and their people
- Work fast. Have fun. Love pets.
- Bachelor's degree in English, Media/Communications, Journalism, Marketing/Advertising or a related field
- 5 years of professional experience in-house or at an agency as a brand, marketing, or advertising copywriter
- Portfolio showcasing your creative ideas, brand storytelling, and copywriting across a range of channels (must include campaign examples, not just one-offs)
- Conceptual and strategic thinker – you can explore and generate multiple creative ideas that align with the brief and deliver on specific marketing goals
- Exceptional craft and versatility – you’re as skilled at writing killer ad headlines, short social posts, and 15s video scripts as you are at writing long-form website content; you can quickly adopt a brand voice and shift tones for your audiences
- Strong marketing foundations and understanding of best practices across key growth channels, such as Web, SEO, Email, Paid Social, Video, and more
- Seasoned researcher – you proactively stay informed about the latest industry & cultural trends, emerging topics, innovations, and competitors
- Programs: Google Suite, Microsoft Office, WordPress, Iterable, Figma, Adobe Suite; experience with AI tools for content creation and editing a plus
- Mission-driven – you are an obsessed pet person (even if you don’t have your own!) and want to help create the future that pets deserve
- Experience in the pet health, pet care, pet insurance, or insurtech space
- Prior experience with content strategy and/or UX writing
- Social media and/or influencer marketing
- Any design skills: web design, illustration, photography, video/editing, animation
