Overview of Accounting Coordinator


Purdue University Northwest is seeking an Accounting Clerk to join the Managerial Accounting Team. The Account Clerk is responsible for fiscal approvals as well as ensuring internal controls are met. They work closely with their assigned department staff to ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and guidelines of the University.

Duties and Responsibilities of Accounting Coordinator

  • Interpret, communicate and implement University Financial Management, internal controls, State & Federal guidelines, policies and procedures for all accounts assigned.
  • Collaborate with Grant Management Office - Post Award process related to fiscal approval.
  • Audit and approval Direct Invoice Vouchers.
  • Prepare journal vouchers for corrections and record charges/transfer requests as needed.
  • Review accounts and coordinate resolution of overdrafts and other problems with leadership.
  • Work closely with Business Manager as needed.
  • Interpret, communicate and implement university procurement guidelines.
  • Audit and approve transactions in Ariba.
  • Purchasing credit card reconciliation.
  • Coordinate with Grant Office for any fiscal approval questions related to grants.
  • Provide training and guidance to departmental staff regarding fiscal processes and keep them informed of any new changes.
  • Work with customers (department staff) and leadership to ensure payments are processed in a timely fashion and in accordance with University policies.

Experience of Accounting Coordinator


  • One year of accounting/financial management work experience required, with preference to the experience in higher education
