Pure Prairie Farms is currently seeking a talented Environmental Health and Safety Manager for our Charles City, IA location.

The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible is responsible for leading EHS compliance and supporting the implementation of EHS and risk management programs, practices and security strategy to achieve performance excellence. This position is responsible for driving a safe working culture and implementing effective EHS and risk management initiatives that enable the site to effectively identify and mitigate risks.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

  • Develop Pure Prairie Farms Environmental Health and Safety and Risk Management

Program.

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight, aligned with Pure Prairie Farm’s EHS & Risk

Management, for environmental, occupational health, safety, industrial hygiene, occupation medical, and security programs

  • Ensure compliance with multidisciplinary groups and EHS programs in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and internal standards to drive continual improvement and an incident free work environment
  • Assist with safety related regulatory compliance issues, as well as updating and implementing the organization’s safety policies/standards
  • Support analysis, preparation and maintenance of mandatory/regulatory safety and environmental reports/records through EHS&RM Data Management System
  • Lead cross functional and multidisciplinary team to address EHS and security site issues, formulate proposal for strategic and tactical responses, and advise site leadership of impacts and mitigation strategies
  • Implement an incident investigation methodology to ensure incidents are investigated and root causes are identified.
  • Support the Leadership Team, supervisors and employees to ensure the site’s success in driving towards zero environmental and employee health & safety incidents. Analyze incident data to identify trends and incident types that can be prevented.
  • Monitor site metrics and implement programs to address undesirable trends.
  • Act as the site EHS liaison for applicable regulatory agencies and internal company organizations.
  • Supporting Worker’s Compensation loss control programs and related reporting requirements.
  • Maintain and update Plant Safety Programs as necessary.
  • Ensure injured employees receive appropriate medical care in a timely manner by accompanying them to Medical Provider Visits
  • Conduct safety orientations for new employee
  • Organize plant hearing conservation program and annual audiometric testing
  • Conduct organization EHS Audits

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Engineering or technical discipline a strong plus.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing industry. Food industry is preferred.
  • Trained subject matter expertise with OSHA/EPA regulations
  • Skilled in leading strategic initiatives, planning and leading change
  • Knowledgeable in OSHA’s Process Safety Management and/or EPA’s Risk Management

Plan Standards.

  • Technical EHS skills: behavior-based principles, engineering, hazard recognition, risk assessment and worker compensation administration
  • Effective coaching, facilitation, presentation, team-building, and leadership skills
  • Experience with environmental management information systems (EMIS) and support software highly preferred
