The Education Specialist plays a vital role in amplifying Putnam’s mission while successfully meeting and exceeding performance goals which align to organizational priorities and strategies. Utilizing both informal and formal education techniques to deliver engaging and exciting programming will further establish Putnam as a leading resource in the Quad Cities for innovative educational programming and community learning.
As the successful candidate you are self-motivated, goal-oriented, and friendly with a sense of humor, positive attitude, and love for museums. You have excellent skills in written and verbal communication including public speaking. You round-out your core competencies with exceptional knowledge of child development – including social, emotional, and developmental skills along with interpretation methods and skills in delivering informal education programming.
The Education Specialist will plan and deliver in-museum and outreach programming for children and adults with an emphasis on STEM, history, culture, and natural science topics while working a flexible schedule according to the needs of the museum and Education Department. Programming will include, but is not limited to, Explorers and Junior Explorers, Summer camp, field trips, outreach, and drop-in activities.
This is a part-time, non-exempt position with a starting range of $12.00 to $13.20 per hour. 20-24 hours per week. Monday through Friday half-day schedule for summer. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday afternoons and full-day Saturday schedule during the school year.
Position Requirements: High School Graduate or equivalent; minimum two to four years work-related experience required. Bachelor's degree in a related field as well as prior teaching experience is highly desired.
