Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Fiber Optic Network Technician to join our team. The successful associate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic networks. This role requires a strong understanding of fiber optic technology, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
What you will be doing:
- Install, splice, terminate, and test fiber optic cables.
- Install, maintain and troubleshoot fiber optic equipment/facilities fiber optic wiring inside and outside of the Central Office/Hubs to the customer premise.
- Activate various inside/outside OLTs, ONTs, STBs and routers at different locations
- Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on fiber optic networks.
- Diagnose and repair issues related to fiber optic cables, connectors, and other network components.
- Respond to network outages and perform necessary repairs in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records of fiber optic installations, splices, and repairs.
- Update network diagrams and infrastructure documentation as needed.
- Respond to trouble tickets within acceptable company timeframe standards.
- Ability to work with basic hand tools and other specialized equipment with training.
- Operate and maintain company vehicle/equipment safely and professionally including a Department of Transportation (DOT) certified bucket truck.
- Adhere to safety protocols and industry standards during all phases of fiber optic network installation and maintenance.
- Team with other departments and the Network Operations Center (NOC) to provide superior customer service and customer experience.
- Interact professionally with customers to ensure satisfaction.
- Climb poles with proper equipment, ladders or other structures as needed.
- Lift and carry loads up to 75lbs (including line ladder); Work within limited confines, such as crawl spaces.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and at various heights.
- Ability to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires.
- Ability to work flexible work hours, including evenings, overnight, weekends holidays and overtime as required.
- Perform on-call rotation duties after regular business hours as needed.
What you need for the position:
- High school diploma or GED – required
- One – two years in the telecommunications industry or related field
- Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record
- Pass pre-employment drug screening
