This opportunity is accountable for managing a team of modelling and data science partners and provide technical subject matter expertise on work products, including study design, research methodology, and deployment of statistical approaches.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with analytics manager to size analytical opportunities and create delivery plans to ensure a positive commercial return against investments made while managing relationships with offshore analytics team
  • Manage and develop implementation plans for analytical projects including required resources, data needs and communication to key stakeholders and providing subject matter expertise
  • Implement continuous improvement strategy by monitoring, reviewing and updating existing data science methods and procedures to ensure use of best practices for recommending profitable business development opportunities
  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of analytical models to identify fraud, drive recoveries and renewals, drive profitable growth, improve underwriting, pricing and claims performance
  • Assist in the development of commercial propositions involving the use of analytics within insurance core function through own analysis, prior experience, research and development
  • Partner with information management leadership to extract new feature sets and proactively identify and classify new feature sets
  • Work with analytics partners to build and put models into production, quantify and analyze model performance; guide and oversee model refreshing requirements
  • Encourage an analytical mindset and engage in conversation with the business around “the art of the possible using data science”, explore data from a modelling perspective, and perform initial exploratory data analysis to assess business value
  • Presents analyses that are clear, well organized, and aimed at appropriate audiences; anticipates questions and directs attention to critical assumptions and findings with the communication of results demonstrating an in-depth subject knowledge and confidence in analytic conclusions
  • Ensure model implementations conform to regulatory requirements and produce clear documentation to support
  • Positively promote the department, division and company as a whole, in order to maximize brand leverage and develop team profile

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Required Experience

  • 7 years relevant experience

Preferred Education Specifics

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in econometrics, mathematics, statistics or related discipline

Preferred Experience

  • Significant data management experience, gained from within financial services sector, ideally within general insurance
  • Track record of implementing models that deliver significant sustained business impact
  • Experience working in Big Data Technology (Hadoop, NoSQL DB, Spark and Parquet)

Preferred Licenses/Certifications

  • Certified Specialist in Predictive Analytics (CAS) or other data science related certifications

Preferred Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of statistical / data mining methods and application in a business environment
  • Expert understanding of Data Science domain, statistical and analytical model development and implementations, proficient in machine learning techniques and related disciplines
  • Expert understanding of data modelling techniques, tools/language - R, Scala, Python, SAS etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of visualization tools like PowerBI, Tableau etc.
  • Expert knowledge of Property & Casualty insurance products and market trends

  • General office jobs: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is not substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. Must be able to operate basic office equipment including telephone, headset and computer. Incumbent must be able to lift basic office equipment up to 20 lbs.
