This position will assist with the on-going and continuous development and implementation of all coding services.
The Manager of Coding Services provides long term strategic and daily operational management of the Organization. To ensure that the coding staff is coding at maximum utilization (production coding and/or shadow coding throughout the work day) according to the corporate coding policies and procedures, coupled with being in compliance with regulatory requirements and official coding guidelines. The role of the Coding Manager includes establishing and maintaining standards of professional competence and excellence meeting or exceeding ResolutionRCM and Client productivity standards while meeting the 95% coding accuracy rate; meeting the corporate DNFB goal This Manager is to proactively initiate and coordinate the mentoring of newer Coders with focus of efficiently navigating through a wide variety of medical records while providing on-going coding education and training for new coding staff.
Essential Functions
- Assist in the development and growth of coding services, including assisting with recruiting and hiring of coding staff
- Directly perform or oversee chart review and coding for both current and retroactive claims
- Work with coding staff to coordinate the filing/re-filing of appropriate claims
- Directly perform, oversee and participate in process improvement and any operational changes that are found during the work on a client project. This includes training client managers, coders, registration personnel and others as assigned
- Prepare and provide weekly reports to appropriate stakeholders, including external client leadership and internal leadership
- Prepare monthly status reports and present to client
- Ensure proper alignment of coding staff based on project scope and goals
- Mentor and train internal coding staff
- Complete chart audits and charge capture review for all coding product lines
- Direct employee supervision on-site at a client as well as remote supervision
- Coordinating with the Executive Director of Operations the start-up and management of all projects
- Work to ensure complete coding an analysis of charts and claim files, coordinating and performing chart reviews, and interfacing with clients.
- Other duties as assigned by Executive Director of Operations or the President and CEO
- Work under minimal supervision
Required Skills and Experience
- Excellent working knowledge of all aspects of coding including ICD-10-CM coding conventions and official coding guidelines, MS-DRG’s HCPCS/CPT with Level I and II modifiers, OPPS, APCs and NCCI edits
- Excellent working knowledge of Evaluation and Management coding guidelines, teaching facility guidelines, mid-level provider guidelines LCD’s and NCD’s
- Excellent knowledge of and adherence to HIPAA guidelines
- Extensive knowledge and experience with the complete revenue cycle
- Excellent knowledge of hospital and clinic coding
- Ability to evaluate, analyze, produce solution development and implement
- Impeccable attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize efforts while multi-tasking
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in coding field or related field, with a minimum of 3 years of management experience
- Strong managerial, leadership and interpersonal skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- A team player, always willing to contribute to the whole of the organization
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or combination of RHIT and experience in progressive positions
Certificate, License or Registration
- Certification as an RHIA or RHIT
