Position Description
In this position, you will be joining the QIAGEN Digital Insights content group, a team of bioinformatics developers that work to deliver high-quality content and informatics support to key QIAGEN software platforms: Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA), QIAGEN Clinical Insight-Interpret (QCI-I), QIAGEN Clinical Insight-Translational (QCI-T), and OmicSoft Suite.
It is the responsibility of the content group to curate information from primary literature sources and databases, ensuring that we consistently utilize comprehensive and cutting-edge scientific findings in our bioinformatics products. Working collaboratively with this team, you will investigate, update, and review scientific concepts as modeled within our proprietary ontology (the QIAGEN Knowledge Base).
This is an excellent opportunity for a person with a strong scientific background in human biology to apply this understanding to the area of computational biology.
This role is for a part-time or full-time contractor within the QDI organization and specifically within the scientific/bioinformatics content team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Investigate and define biological concepts for inclusion in the QIAGEN Knowledge Base and as needed to support other applications.
- Work collaboratively with the other team members to make decisions on content modeling and integration for all QIAGEN products and services.
Position Requirements
Minimum
- Excellent problem-solving abilities
- Demonstrated competency in biology, especially in areas around human disease and genetics.
- Solid understanding of the bio-medical domain
- Familiarity with general bioinformatics resources (such as NCBI Entrez Gene, PubMed, OMIM, ClinVar)
Preferred
- Experience with bioinformatics, information integration, and knowledge modeling
- Familiarity with ontologies, specifically biomedical ontologies (such as GO, SnoMed, HPO, NCI Thesaurus)
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills: ability to interact and work well with members of other functional groups
- MS or PhD in life-sciences, bioinformatics, or related area
