Job Summary: Quad YouthBuild (QYB) is a workforce development and education provider. QYB offers youth populations, ages 16-24, job training, life skills, HiSET preparation, post-secondary and employment placement services.The construction site trainer teaches youth the occupational skills through OJT. The construction manager will manage the renovation, rehabilitation, or construction of affordable housing units and the on-site construction training of young people, including AmeriCorps member service projects & activities.
Job Duties:
- Develop detailed construction plan and schedule.
- Coordinate and monitor the progress and quality of work.
- Develop and monitor construction budget cost, if necessary.
- Order supplies and materials.
- Provide oversight of the on-site construction training and AmeriCorps service projects by: ensuring that trainees get consistent and adequate skills training; helping to set standards for appropriate behavior and ways to handle problems on the construction site; and ensuring work-site safety, learning of safety procedures, and proper construction techniques.
- Ensure quality instruction of construction skills including demolition, rough framing, roofing, drywall, finish carpentry, sheet metal, electrical, plumbing, painting, and masonry.
- Ensuring proper OSHA health and safety regulations are being consistently followed and enforced.
- Define weekly work assignments and priorities for construction trainers and trainees.
- Assist in personal and vocational counseling and development of trainee’s leadership skills in conjunction with YouthBuild staff.
- Provide instruction of construction skills training and assessment for the students in the areas of demolition, rough framing, drywall, carpentry, green building, electrical, plumbing, painting, masonry and other applicable skills as per either the NCCER or HBI-PACT Curricula.
- Keep the director informed of the progress, problems, and needs of the on-site construction work and training progress.
- Assist in the evaluation of student knowledge and skills in construction. Participate in the development of the project-based curriculum that includes construction.
- Support the leadership development and counseling goals of the program through appropriate site activities and processes.
- Maintain accurate files documenting the construction projects for each program year.
- Implement and accurately maintain a system to track students’ progress and assess their skills and abilities.
- Identify private contractors or developers who might be interested in collaborative partnerships with YouthBuild and willing to work with young people as construction trainees.
- Establish and maintain alliances with union representatives and construction industry employers and refer students when appropriate.
- Assess potential construction sites.
- Promote the value of AmeriCorps service at the construction sites.
- Oversee the planning and implementation of a project on a designated national day of service such as September 11th National Day of Service & Remembrance, Make A Difference Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; Global Youth Service Day.
- Maintain accurate inventory of all tools, supplies, and equipment.
- Participate in community service projects.
- Ensure the van receives timely maintenance and maintain the upkeep.
- Attend all staff meetings and coordinate individual plans with other YouthBuild staff.
- Serves as a mentor and role model to YouthBuild participants; maintain professional boundaries at all times.
- Transport participants and ensure participants follow transportation procedures.
- Report monthly on activities as assigned in internal and grant-required databases. Provide regular updates to Program Director
- Attend program and agency related meetings and conferences.
- Participate in program recruitment
- Regularly travel to perform program duties.
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalency.
- Minimum of five (5) years work experience in all elements of housing construction.
- OSHA, NCCER, and HBI-PACT training certification preferred.
- Must be a flexible, energetic, and positive individual who is committed to the education and development of multiracial and multicultural youth in a high quality respectful environment.
- Must have deep respect for the ideas and intelligence of young people.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have basic computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office and database usage.
- Must pass a post-offer criminal background check (FBI, Louisiana State, and/or Sex Offender Check)
