Position Summary:
The Sr. Specialist, EHS Manufacturing position is accountable for supporting all elements of the environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs within the assigned scope. Will act as the lead EHS technical expert and advocate for continuous improvement of EHS performance within the assigned scope to promote a safe, productive, sustainable and environmentally sound work culture through the application of continuous improvement, best practices and personal accountability. The jobholder will work closely with Operations leadership to ensure continued adoption of the EHS culture of excellence and effective execution of the EHS strategy within manufacturing and ancillary operations such as laboratories, administrative offices and sales offices.
The position will provide professional knowledge and technical expertise around regulatory compliance, policy and program development and training within their assigned scope. Specific emphasis will be placed on: 1) developing and driving programs that continuously improve employee safety performance in the regions to world-class standards; and, 2) and developing and implementing regional and local EHS management systems and maintenance of applicable certifications of such systems (e.g., ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001 etc.) within the assigned area of responsibility. This position will implement EHS plans and timelines appropriate for their area of responsibility. Depending on the scope, this position may also provide EHS support for Fluidcare sites if necessary and may also engage with the local QA personnel as a part of the ISO certification processes. The position is expected to navigate, interact, effectively communicate and act as a change agent within their area of responsibility to drive continuous improvement. It is anticipated that this position will require domestic travel (<20%).

Work Environment:
This position is a senior staff position. No specific physical demands have been identified for this position. Typical office ergonomic conditions exist. Will be visiting and working in manufacturing, chemical management services and customer sites to assess occupational/operational hazards. Potential for exposure to physical and chemical hazards exist. Domestic travel required (<20%). Additional travel occasionally needed based on new project implementations.
Education, Experience, Skills & Competencies:
At a minimum, must hold a Bachelors degree in technical discipline: Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Toxicology, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environment, Health and Safety, Chemistry, Biology, or appropriate science related field. Advance certification, additional specialized safety education and/or equivalent work experience desired but not required. These may include: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) NEBOSH Certification, etc. Specific knowledge and expertise in:
A minimum of 10 years experience in the environmental, health and safety discipline with a strong focus on safety required. At least 5 years working in a manufacturing environment as a safety professional required. Experience in the specialty chemical or chemical industry preferred. Experience in a service industry a plus.
Demonstrates ability for strong collaboration and proactive and creative problem solving ability. Displays solid interpersonal and verbal/written skills with the ability to build trust with all levels of the organization. Ability to communicate and obtain buy-in for EHS plans within their area of responsibility. Must be comfortable in challenging status quo and developing effective implementation plans and timelines to achieve goals.
Able to act as a strong change agent within an organization and to influence managers and employees to take appropriate actions. Is able to effectively communicate EHS risks and assist leadership in assessing and prioritizing these risks based on legal requirements and business objectives/needs. Must be able to assess EHS risks and liabilities and to influence management to take appropriate actions. Must be able to work closely with management and legal counsel to address regulatory compliance and liability issues.
Will have a solid work ethic, impeccable integrity, and exceptional communication and influencing skills. Ability to independently work and handle multiple tasks with the ability to switch priorities and focus as needed. Able to exercise excellent judgment and possess keen attention to detail. Able to take regional strategies and develop/execute specific strategies, implementation plans and timelines within their area of responsibility with minimal direction or oversight.
Demonstrated ability to reinforce and improve the safety culture working in collaboration with operational leadership. Must be successful in working in a team-oriented environment and be able to work effectively in a matrix organization.
Confidentiality: Ability to act as custodian of confidential information. In reply to any questions, internal or external, paramount importance must be paid in the content and delivery of an answer including an appreciation of attorney client privilege. The guidance of General Counsel and the Business must be sought when there are any doubts.
Proficient in English language required. Additional languages relevant to the region assigned a plus.
