Position Overview
The product engineer is involved in all aspects of a product rollout. This includes initial bill of materials (BOM) audit and verification, shop floor standard operating procedures (SOP's), fabrication verification, cut length verification, machinery runoff, and shop floor paperwork review. The product engineer also works in tandem with the application engineer on initial product training and ensures the product is being manufactured as designed and documented. The product engineer is also involved in updating and documenting changes to existing products. This position also involves creating detailed installation instructions for field installation. The product engineer is essential to the success of any new product launch.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create shop floor Standard Operating Procedures for all manufacturing functions
- Create installation instructions for all products
- Be involved in all aspects of a product release on the shop floor
- Ensure all documentation is accurate in regards to manufacturing
- Verify part fabrications for accuracy on all new product rollouts
- Verify cut sheet information for accuracy, fit and finish on initial product rollout
- Be involved in machinery runoff on all new products
- Verify paperwork accuracy at time of product launch
- Identify shop floor improvements through product rollout
- Assist with the implementation of product changes
- Work intimately with the Product Support Specialist to ensure documentation is up to date in the document library.
- Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.
- Interact and communicate with employees and customers in an appropriate manner.
- Availability on site to confer with staff members with whom the employee must interact on a regular basis.
- Communicate via email, prepare reports and work schedules.
- Review and analyze data and information for new products.
- Plan, prioritize and monitor new product release activities.
- Complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner.
Supervisory Responsibility
No direct management or supervisory responsibilities.
Safety
Observe safety and security policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE (personal protective equipment); report potentially unsafe conditions; and use equipment and materials properly.
Travel
Approximately 10% travel is required between Quaker campuses or for professional development, job site visits or to witness certification tests at third party testing facilities.
Qualifications
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software: Excel, Word, Outlook
- Understanding of Product Manufacturing
- Understanding of Product Terminology
- Proficient with AutoCAD, Solidworks or other drafting software
Preferred Education and Experience
The expectation is that the individual has achieved a minimum level of education and/or related expertise to qualify for this position.
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Drafting related field
- Minimum 1 year of experience with Solidworks Composer software preferred

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

This is primarily an office job and largely a sedentary role with frequent sitting. The position will visit the factory and require use of all ambulatory functions including standing, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, crouching, stretching, pulling and occasional lifting of >75lbs. This position could require long periods of standing. This position must use an assisted lift or team lift any time objects exceeding 75 pounds need lifting or carrying.
It is an essential job function and safety rule, applicable to every employee working in a safety sensitive classified position, to be able to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
Work Environment
Although the employee will primarily be in an office setting, while performing the duties of this job, the employee may need to visit the factory and be exposed to climactic variations, fumes or airborne particles, various levels of vibration, and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the office is usually low, but hearing protection or other Personal Protective Equipment may be advisable or required for prolonged visits to certain parts of the factory.
