 WHAT WILL YOU DO?

As a Project Manager in the Systems Engineering Group, in our San Diego, CA office, you will function as a technical and project lead for small to mid-sized design development projects involving prototype and small volume hardware delivery. You will own Quartus’ relationships with several customers, contribute to sales efforts, plan and execute projects to completion, delegate and review work, perform technical work on more challenging tasks, function as a technical mentor to younger engineers, and be responsible for the cost, scope and schedule of the project, while also managing customer expectations. This is a technical position and a strong ability to conduct and lead challenging design development and build projects from end to end is essential. This is a dynamic position in which time management of yourself and your project team members is essential.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Be responsible for all aspects of assigned projects, this includes:
• Project planning and staffing
• Identifying key resources and defining project team roles and responsibilities
• Communicating with customer & managing their expectations
• Presenting results and status updates to the customer
• Executing work within schedule and budget
• Serve as technical lead on assigned projects, this includes:
• Having a solid understanding of 3-D CAD models & assemblies and mechanism designs with appropriate degrees of freedom, range of motion, resolution, stability, etc.
• Having the ability to perform technical work on the more challenging aspects of a project and appropriately identify required resources based on project needs and skillset
• Making an assessment and decision on technical approach to solve a variety of problems, that can be technical, logistical, and/or involving hardware
• Delegating and reviewing technical work
• Managing a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and technicians with backgrounds such as mechanical, electrical, optical and software
• Providing technical mentorship to junior engineers
• Be responsible for all aspects of assigned prototype and small volume hardware production projects, this could includes:
• Procuring required materials, based on project needs such as cost and schedule constraints and managing vendors
• Tracking labor, material and expense costs against developed cost estimate baselines
• Overseeing and participating in the execution of the build, alignment, test, installation and/or commissioning
• Handling issues or nonconformances as they occur and reacting quickly towards resolution
• Serve as a key contributor to the advancement of Quartus as a business, this includes:
• Owning Quartus’ relationships with customers: build, develop, and grow business relationships, including identifying opportunities for project growth with current customers
• Contributing to sales efforts by presenting engineering capabilities and assisting the business development team with meeting, conference, and marketing content support
• Writing effective proposals, which includes defining scope, estimating costs, generating a schedule and defining technical content for a variety of contract vehicles.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

• BS in an Engineering field – Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Optical (or a similar discipline)
• MS considered a plus
• 7-15 years of work experience with strong focus on mechanical systems and hardware development/prototyping
• 3 years of experience leading groups of engineers on projects or delegating project work to team members

• Expertise using SolidWorks (2010 or later).
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: Aerospace, Electro-Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Robotics, and/or Optical Systems

• Ability to perform basic hand calculations and demonstrate an understanding of engineering fundamentals

• Experience creating and redlining 2-D drawings to document design elements, including a good understanding of the GD&T standard, ASME Y14.5

• Management experience in a design-build environment with exposure to manufacturing and production
• Must be a US Person (US Citizen or US Permanent Resident)
