Copy Editor – SeniorsMatter

Combine your passion for news, storytelling and the written word with a desire to help millions navigate the confusing and often bewildering world of caregiving! Quillt Media is a St. Louis, Missouri-based online publisher that maintains a portfolio of websites with millions of readers each month. We’re looking for a skilled U.S.-based copy editor to help with editing, proofreading and writing for one of our sites, SeniorsMatter.com, an online community dedicated to helping caregivers of older adults.

The ideal candidate will have an enthusiasm for crafting impeccable content that not only communicates effectively but is also educational and helpful to the reader, along with excellent grammar skills and a knowledge of basic SEO practices.

This is a full-time position with the possibility of advancement. 100% remote work is possible if outside the St. Louis area.

Responsibilities:
  • Copy editing submitted articles to ensure they’re free of grammar and spelling errors, are factually sound, and are formatted correctly
  • Writing SEO-optimized headlines and restructuring lead sentences
  • Finding, editing and adding images to articles before publishing them to the site
  • Researching and creating content briefs, and making writing assignments to freelance writers
  • Conducting keyword research and pitching new content ideas
  • Updating existing content as needed
  • Maintaining the SeniorsMatter content calendar
  • Writing news stories and other content as assigned/needed
  • Ensuring all content adheres to the SeniorsMatter style, including spelling, voice and tone
  • Editing copy to improve readability through formatting and conciseness
  • Arrange article text and images properly in WordPress

Desired qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism (preferred) or a related field, and at least one year of relevant work experience
  • Proficiency with AP style and applying the principles to different types of writing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language
  • Ability to remain detailed-oriented and focused when processing large amounts of text
  • Willingness to collaborate with a creative team of writers, graphic designers and others
  • Strong computer processing skills, especially Google Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Basic knowledge of legal issues involved in publishing, such as libel and plagiarism
  • Mastery of spelling, grammar and punctuation errors and ability to make constructive suggestions
  • Highly adept at research and sussing out credible sources
  • Editorial mindset with a passion for content creation
  • Basic knowledge of SEO practices
  • Familiarity with WordPress
