Overview

Responsible for the startup, commissioning, and maintenance testing of electrical power distribution systems at customer sites. Troubleshoot, test, inspect and repair complex electrical power distribution systems, and moderately complex relay calibration and power metering following established procedures and guidelines. Operates related test equipment and coordinates electrical systems operations. Customarily and regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment in the performance of duties on the field.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Select proper equipment for any standard job and demonstrate proficiency with diagnostic tools.Perform instrument transformer tests, power transformer testing, UPS start up and troubleshooting, automatic transfer switch troubleshooting, generator testing, power meter calibration and high voltage circuit breaker testing.Execute complex troubleshooting routines, protective relay calibration, use of load and power quality recording instrumentation, infrared scanners, medium voltage breaker and switchgear testing. Perform start-up services on high voltage switchgear.Write detailed, computer generated reports promptly at the end of each project using a computer; accurately process job billing.Sales Support: Conducts sales calls. Maintain strong client relationships.Conducts job walks to ascertain site conditions, accessibility, test equipment requirements, test power needs, and verifying site electrical layout including oneline diagram. Perform all functions pertaining to a written job proposal to a client, including estimate of man hours and expenses, and development of scope and pricing; complete projects consistently on budget.Stay current with product lines; utilize resources from CAT and Quinn Company.Travel to other stores, customer sites, and other dealer and Caterpillar facilities for work or training. Attend ancillary training as required.Work flexible hours including weekends, holidays and nights as required by workload and customer need. Be available for out-of-town and international travel of up to several weeks.Conduct electrical safety training for Quinn employees. Make technical presentations to customers / end users.Build competencies, be responsible and proactive for personal development and training requirements for growth, share skills with others.Take an active role in business development and expansion.Demonstrate and promote Quinn Company core values of Integrity, Teamwork, Respect for People, Quality and Customer Service.Maintain good attendance and punctuality.Follow Company policies and procedures. Perform tasks from verbal/written instructions; communicate effectively with clients and peers.

Demonstrate safe work practices at all times.Carry out duties and responsibilities according to safety guidelines and policies.Operate equipment and vehicles within design limitations and perform daily maintenance as required.Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection and safety shoes as required.Report any hazardous work conditions immediately to your supervisor or safety representative.MSHA certification may be required.

Maintain clean and organized works areas and equipment.Secure Company and personal equipment and property at the end of the shift.Maintain clean and organized Company vehicle.

Accurately complete reports in a timely manner.Accurately complete parts / equipment orders, and identify returns.Make decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment; seek out others for advice and solutions as needed.Use rigorous logic, analysis and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; leverage resources for answers.Practice effective time management and good work habits. Meet internal and external customer expectations and requirements; establish and maintain effective relationships.Demonstrate proper use of technical manuals and publications.Demonstrate proficiency with computer, including editing, formatting and using templates in Microsoft Word, Excel, use of Internet for standards/products/manufacturer research and operation of computer controlled test equipment.Perform other departmental duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Leads assigned team members in the Engineering Service Department and external contractors to successfully complete field projects/ assignments. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

As lead is responsible for lock-out, tag-out, and personal protection to meet safety requirements onsite. Responsible for life-safety. Conducts safety tail-gate meetings. Also ensures others at work site meet similar safety requirements.

 

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (BSEE or BSME) and four years experience. Or graduate of applicable electrical technical school or military equivalent and six years minimum same or similar work experience. Strong background and experience in most types of switchgear testing. General knowledge of the National Electrical Code and various industry standards, such as OSHA and NFPA.

 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedure manuals and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

Understanding of geometry, trigonometry and basic calculus. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Can concentrate on several projects and activities at once.

 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTERATIONSValid California driver’s license with acceptable driving record. Valid international passport. Relay Calibration certification. Infrared Thermographic certification and California Electrical certification preferred.
