JOB DESCRIPTION:
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibility of this position is to direct, plan and administer the day-to-day operations of group benefit programs (group health, dental, vision, short-term, long-term disability, life insurance, flexible spending plan, 401(k) plan and retirement plan). Provide exceptional customer service and quality benefit plans to Sheppard and all U.S. Bendix Plants. Incumbent will work under minimal supervision. Responsibilities captioned below are considered essential job functions:
- Adhere to established policy and procedures always ensuring confidentiality and compliance with applicable government regulations and HIPAA
- Maintain employee benefit files and updating of employee status changes timely, i.e., group benefits, FMLA, STD, Military, paid and unpaid leave of absences
- Monitor benefits administration for the Region
- Analyze the current benefits, evaluating the usage, services, coverage, effectiveness, cost, plan experience, and competitive trends in benefit and Wellness programs
- Promotes wellness and fitness initiatives in the organization; answers questions and collects feedback from participants.
- Designs, plans, and implements classes, speakers, seminars, personal training, and voluntary fitness assessments to promote healthy lifestyles.
- Assists employees with personal concerns and assessments; provides recommendations and referrals for counseling, crisis intervention, and treatment.
- Coordinate random drug tests on a monthly basis to include CDL employee pool
- Provide analytical and technical support in the delivery of the benefit programs and troubleshoot system problems
- Handle employee inquiries via phone, email, and in person daily, develop communication tools to enhance understanding of the company’s benefits package
- Compile and administer the benefit plan renewal process annually; design and distribute materials for benefits orientations, open enrollment and summary plan descriptions
- Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators, determine best plan options by working with the Third-Party administrators
- Coordinate transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums and plan administration, i.e., paid and unpaid leave, STD and premium arrears
- Investigate discrepancies and provide information as needed to ensure the plan runs smoothly
- Review/approve invoices from the onsite Clinic
- Evaluate and revise internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency
- Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefit processes
- Develop long-range objectives regarding benefit and wellness programs in conjunction with the Bendix Regional Benefits Manager
- Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of upholding upmost confidentiality of all employee information
- Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements both adopted and pending affecting employee benefit programs, including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, ADA, Workers Compensation, Medicare, OBRA and Social Security and DOL requirements
- Knowledge of MS Office suite, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- SAP experience a plus
- Interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with all levels of personnel and management
- Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet tight deadlines with strong attention to detail
- Knowledge of benefits contract language
- Payroll experience preferred
- Organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to perform routine tasks independently
- Ability to read, write and comprehend instruction
- Ability to stand, stoop, bend, walk, reach
- Ability to travel 25% as necessary
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
General office mostly and some shop and machine tool noise, dirt, grease, heat and fumes from the operation of machines and equipment infrequently. Normal working position is sitting, standing, and walking throughout the plant, reaching with hands and arms, climbing stairs infrequently, talking and hearing. Lifting weight can anywhere from 1 to 25 lbs. infrequently in which proper lifting/moving techniques are required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business Administration preferred; five years field experience, specifically with group benefits administration, CBP (Certified Benefits Professional) designation preferred.
