As our new Staff Scientist, you will be working closely with Project Managers and other Consultants on a variety of environmental investigation/remediation projects. This is an excellent career opportunity to work with an expert consulting team on challenging environmental projects for industrial, financial sector, commercial, and global clients. - At least a Bachelor’s degree in a science related field and 0-3 years relevant work experience.
- Classwork or experience with organic chemistry, soil mechanics, solid and hazardous waste management, remedial systems/design, and fate and transport is a plus.
- Experience with environmental regulatory programs, document database management, risk assessment, environmental sampling, and/or due diligence is a plus.
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training is a plus.
- Candidates must be willing to travel up to 75% average over the year and possess a valid driver’s license. Travel may include overnight stay and may be out of state. Travel duration may range from 1-10 days, depending upon the specific requirements of each project.
- The physical requirements of this position may include the need for climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing/sitting/walking, pushing/pulling, and lifting up to 40 lbs. In certain situations, this position may expose the candidate to extremes in weather (hot/cold); high noise levels, to hazards such as a proximity to moving machine parts and moving vehicles, electrical current and exposure to chemicals. Employees may be required to take specific training and to wear PPE on some occasions.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Performance of field work, including soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, soil vapor, and indoor air sampling, geotechnical testing, soil boring and monitoring well installation, soil logging, and well purging and sampling.
- Assistance with the development of comprehensive site investigations work plans by participating in scope of work development, budgeting, and data analysis to characterize contaminants in sediments, soil, air, surface water, and groundwater.
- Strong critical thinking, written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work on multi-gendered teams
- Strong quantitative data analysis skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to manage time to meet deadlines
- Ability and willingness to work as a responsible, independent team player in a consulting environment, potentially including the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
