job summary:
Position Function: Responsible for performing the day-to-day activities in the laboratory working under prescribed procedures (protocols, standard operating procedures, methods, etc.) Performs qualitative and quantitative analysis, prepares solutions, performs calibration, qualification, and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation, conducts environmental monitoring, assists with technical writing, and performs administrative tasks. Assists the department in areas including but not limited to solving problems, reviewing experimental data, writing protocol/SOP/validation reports and assist with training support staff as necessary. Monitors study procedures to ensure data accuracy and report quality. Maintains a GMP/GLP Laboratory.

Evaluates the chemical and physical properties of various organic and inorganic substances. Utilizes established methods, procedures, and laboratory equipment to perform analytical testing of substances. Prepares compounds, reagents, and solutions. Develops and writes technical reports of testing results. Has gained exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Works under the moderate supervision of senior personnel in the functional area. Gained or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of analysis.

responsibilities:
  • Perform routine and non-routine analysis on raw materials, drug substances, reference material, and drug products using a variety of instrumental and wet chemistry techniques.
  • Conducts calibration, qualification and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation (i.e., pH meter, HPLC, dissolution equipment, etc).
  • Operates and maintain general analytical instruments (i.e., HPLC, dissolution apparatus, UV, IR, KF titrator, Coulometer, etc).
  • Performs wet chemistry tests on raw materials, in process samples and finished products.
  • Prepares standard and sample solutions as required by the test methods.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation (records and lab notebooks) as required by SOP's.
  • Complies with all current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and safety requirements, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and company policies and procedures.
  • Complies with good housekeeping and safety practices.
  • Participates in troubleshooting of analytical test methods and laboratory instruments.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Takes part in the training program as a qualified trainer, as requested.
  • Assist in other parts of the department as workload and project priorities dictate.
  • Assists in reviewing test methods.
  • Perform analysis on intermediate and finished product.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Dissolution, FT-IR, UV-VIS, KF, TLC and other analytical techniques
  • Computer applications and programs related to laboratory applications such as HPLC, FTIR, TOC
  • Sampling methods and quality control systems.
  • Mathematics including statistics.
  • Sample preparation techniques.
  • Spectroscopic techniques and chromatographic system.
  • Must have basic computer knowledge including, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
 
qualifications:
Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a Pharmaceutical, Biological, Chemical science or related field.
  • 3-7 years of experience of related laboratory work experience; minimum of 2 years of experience as a Chemist in a GMP environment;
Knowledge/Skills

  • The ability to work successfully in both a team/matrix environment as well as independently.
  • The ability to work in a fast paced environment, manage priorities and maintain timelines for multiple projects.
  • The ability to work safely in a chemical laboratory.
