Staff Accountant

job summary:
A fast growing private equity backed leader in the fine interior design space seeks a Staff Accountant to join their growing team. My client has been in business over 100 years with a tremendous international & domestic reputation. They are headquartered in New Jersey with corporate offices in London and flagship showrooms in NYC, LA, Chicago, and Atlanta. All of their products are created by in their in-house design studio and an ideal candidate should be interested in the design & creative arts industry.

This role will be an important position on the accounting team and work directly with the Senior Accountant and Finance Director. The position will expose the Staff Accountant to Treasury, Reporting and Month End responsibilities.

responsibilities:
Treasury:

• Daily review of bank transactions.
• Update outstanding checks list for cleared checks.
• Reconcile credit cards processed to the GL Posting.
• Reconcile credit card processed and posted to the GL to the amount funded to the bank.
• Advise AR Coordinator of incoming wire payments for posting to Customer accounts.
• Advise Accounting Senior and Finance Director of any unidentified outgoing payments.
• Process and post non-AP transactions such as bank fee, cc fees, sales tax etc.
• Process and post Cobra and Rental Income Transactions.
• Advise Accounts Receivable Coordinator of returned checks and chargebacks.
• Post cash transfers between operating to payroll bank accounts.
• Research and trouble shoot customer payments.

Reporting:

• Prepare and distribute daily cash report.
• Prepare and distribute weekly cash disbursement report by category.

Month End:

• Responsible for Operating bank account reconciliation.
• Various Balance sheet account analysis and reconciliation (Prepaid Expenses, Unexpired Insurance, and Customer Refund clearing).
• Prepare and post adjusting journal entries based on account analysis and reconciliations.
• Prepare and post recurring and standard journal entries

Qualifications:

• Minimum Undergraduate degree in Accounting.
• Public accounting experience preferred, but not a requirement.
• 3 years of accounting related experience
• Distribution, Manufacturing or Inventory environment a plus!
• Intermediate to Advance Excel/MS Office skills
