What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance - PT position at Ravalli County?
Job Summary:
This is a part time (.25) position working an average of ten (10) hours per week (520 hours per fiscal year). This position will require flexible hours including weekends and will be approved for additional hours during the Ravalli County Fair. Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, this position requires physical and technical duties in maintaining and cleaning all County buildings ensuring an efficient clean and safe campus. This person will perform a dual role in both building maintenance and assisting janitorial duties, depending on departmental needs. Prior experience with building maintenance skill required along with a knowledge of custodial responsibilities. It requires ability to operate various types of machinery, including tractors and mowers. At times strenuous and physical labor will be required. The ability to communicate clearly with Ravalli county residents is essential.

Travel Required:
Travel between Ravalli County buildings is required.
Duties/Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Perform day-to-day maintenance and janitorial activities for primary Ravalli County buildings and Fairgrounds.
- Perform regular inspections and maintain a record of the conditions in all facilities as appropriate.
- Adhere to procedures to ensure that the Department is performing efficiently.
- Set priorities on maintenance projects, special projects and work orders, set time lines for completion and do regular follow up to establish progress.
- Ensure that requests and work orders executed in the proper fashion and timely manner and that equipment Room Logs are maintained
- Participate in a wide variety of maintenance projects and activities such as:
- Delivering copy paper, assist with document shredding, Elections set up, Furniture repair, Change light bulbs, Recycling, Grounds keeping, Snow removal, Ice melt, Irrigation, Mowing, moving document boxes to storage, Minor and major facilities repairs, Changing air and water filters
- Participate in Fire Drill, Evacuation plans and other safety issues
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.

- Ability to read and understand guidance of SDS and manufactures specifications for proper use of chemicals.
- Proper storage and labeling of chemicals as specified by manufacturer and SDS.
- Gather and empty trash receptacles.
- Dust furniture, walls, machines and/or equipment.
- Clean windows, glass partitions and mirrors using appropriate cleaning agent and tools.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area; ensure maintenance and cleaning supplies are stocked and Facility manager is notified or orders needed.
- Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as:
- Locking doors after operating hours as directed by Facilities Manager.
- Unlocking doors for normal operating hours as directed by Facilities Manager.
- Checking electrical appliances use to ensure that hazards are not created.
- Checking equipment as directed by Facilities Manager for normal operations.
- Reporting safety hazards and deficiencies to Facility Manager.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- General understanding of basic operations of HVAC Systems, Electrical systems, Plumbing systems, Carpentry operations and management principles
- Good organizational skills with appropriate proof of experience
- Ability to work weekends and on call when emergencies arise.
- Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
- Knowledge of how to properly utilize and follow direction of SDS and product specifications.
- Detail-oriented and thorough.
- Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance.
- Ability to keep Ravalli County buildings clean and orderly.
- Ability to interact with staff and general public while remaining professional, polite and courteous.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years’ experience in similar position
- Working knowledge of facilities maintenance for a multi-building campus environment preferred.
- Knowledge of County, State and Federal building specifications preferred.
Additional Eligibility Requirements:
- Ability to work evening schedule and willing to work weekends and on call when emergencies arise.
- Must possess a valid Montana Driver’s license.
- Must pass a background check.
