Vertex, located in Indianapolis, IN, is searching for an energetic and highly motivated candidate to lead its Electrical Hardware Engineering organization. The Electrical Hardware Engineering Section Manager is responsible for leading a team of approximately 15 engineers and technicians in the full development process from requirements development, design, manufacturing, and shipment of analog, digital, and RF equipment and hardware. The Electrical Hardware Engineering Section Manager oversees the execution of daily activities to ensure products are of high quality and delivered on-time to its customers.

The products are highly engineered hardware that may be development, production, or depot-repair hardware supporting both internal Vertex and DoD customers. Candidates must exhibit a high degree of initiative and sound judgment, working independently and as a member of an Integrated Product Team. It is essential the individual be capable of adapting to changing conditions and work cooperatively in a team environment.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Development and validation of analog, digital, and RF hardware.

  • Assist with any preparation of annual operating budgets for the team, including capital requests.

  • Plan and forecast manpower requirements to support the program and business plans.

  • Monitor daily/weekly/monthly “Work-In-Process.”

  • Identify and implement improvement initiatives for functional and program levels.

  • Oversee staff training, career development, performance appraisals, and monitor health, safety, and section productivity.

  • Promote Agile Frameworks and Lean Six Sigma Initiatives.

  • Monitor compliance with company policies and procedures.

  • Develop or streamline existing processes to improve team effectiveness.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 10 years related experience in test equipment, systems, software, or hardware engineering.

  • Experience with Analog, Digital, and RF hardware, Circuit Board Design, VHDL Code, and Embedded Software.

  • Familiar with Electrical Design software such as Altium Designer, Mentor HyperLynx, Mathworks Matlab, Spice, Questa, and ModelSim.

  • Experience utilizing agile development processes for electrical hardware design.

  • Team and/or Project Leadership experience.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills with ability to be adaptable to changing priorities and assignments.

  • Ability to effectively work cross-functionally and influence, advise and direct members outside the direct reporting structure to perform job requirements and meet deadlines.

Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance

Desired Skills:

  • Excellent people management skills including team building, delegation, promoting collaboration, and performance management.

  • Experience with Windchill PDM, SAP, Production Planning, or Project Management preferred.

  • Ability to stand in as Hardware Engineering Department Manager as required.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) degree program.

  • Requires broad management and leadership knowledge to lead project teams.

Typically requires:

A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience

Engineering/Other Technical Positions:

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
