Location: Denver, CO, on-site. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Job Description

  • Position Overview: We seek an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to manage the accounting functions for a diverse portfolio of companies and real estate investments. This role requires expertise in property accounting, handling complex inter-company transactions, and reconciliations. Manage the accounting for 40 wholly-owned entities plus additional business interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Management:
    • Oversee and manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, intercompany transactions, and general ledger for industrial, retail, SFH, and land properties, including related reconciliations.
    • Timely preparation of financial statements.
    • Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to support business decisions.
    • Coordinate with CPAs in tax preparation for all entities.
    • Strong understanding of cash and accrual accounting
    • Manage and record inter-company transactions and allocations.
    • Ensure accurate and compliant inter-company reconciliations and settlements.
    • Develop and implement processes to streamline inter-company accounting.
  • Financial Controls and Compliance:
    • Develop and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial accuracy.
    • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and all relevant laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
    • Coordinate with tax advisors as needed.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Provide recommendations based on financial analysis and projections.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with other departments and business units to support overall business objectives.
    • Provide guidance and support to accounting staff as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least two years in a controller or similar role. Property Management experience required.
  • Strong understanding of inter-company transactions and allocations.
  • Experience in property management accounting and commercial leasing.
  • Experience with real estate management/accounting software: Rent Manager, Yardi, AppFolio, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A willingness to learn new things.
