Title: Plant Hygienist/Sanitarian
Reports to: Food Safety Manager
Primary Objective: Plant Hygienist/Sanitarian will provide leadership and guidance in directing efforts to improve, maintain, and validate sanitation practices and procedures.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
* Maintains the Plant Master Sanitation Schedule to cover manufacturing facility-including production, warehouses, utilities, and other areas and plant perimeter.
* Collaborates with quality to establish and maintain environmental monitoring program for plant, warehouse, and adjoining areas.
* Lead investigation of environmental monitoring results including follow up and corrective action for recurring events, conducts regular inspections.
* Participate on cross functional teams to prevent and investigate all micro related issues in in-process, finished goods, and environmental monitoring.
* Establishes and reviews current plant zoning policy and recommends ways to prevent physical and microbial product contamination.
* Supports pest control programs for areas of responsibility.
* Evaluates and approves cleaning accessories and disinfectants used in sanitation procedures.
* Audits cleaning systems and procedures for compliance and continuous improvement.
* Facilitates training and updates for plant personnel on sanitation, CGMP, and hygiene programs.
* Initiates and updates cleaning protocols and other micro-related control programs.
* Defines scope of work and establishes standards and measure of cleaning effectiveness for third party janitorial services for the plant.
* Collaborates with various departments in specifying and improving design of machines and equipment to comply with Hygienic Engineering Design standards.
* Conducts GMP audit on a regular basis and facilitates resolution of observations at reasonable time frame.
* Collaborates with Food Safety Manager in establishing the facility food safety programs as guided by existing company policy and regulatory agency requirements.
* Understands allergens and cross contamination risks in food production.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
* Minimum two years' experience in the food industry.
* Four-year degree desired in Microbiology, Food Science, or an equivalent field. In lieu of above formal educational experience, demonstration of the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform food sanitation program supervision will be considered.
* Microbiological knowledge is preferred.
* Good people development skills and communication skills.
* Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential.
* Demonstrate achievements within a competitive business environment where change in business dynamics plays a major role. The individual will have a track record with proven results and achievements.
* A driven, motivated leadership approach is expected which will be utilized in gaining support and alignment from management and business parties.
* Strong communication skills with other Quality staff and the ability to interact and work with Quality and Operations staff on a daily basis.
