Associate, Trade Finance Services (Letter of Credit)

Commercial Operations is looking for a candidate to join our Trade Finance Services (Letter of Credit) team. This role involves servicing trade clients transacting with domestic and international parties.

Considering the regulatory, financial, and operational risk associated with letters of credit and documentary collections, candidates must evidence the highest levels of ownership, attention to detail, critical thinking, and risk management.

Responsibilities :

Responsible for negotiating, issuing, and advising Standby and Trade Letters of Credit for domestic and international transactions

Responsible for processing Documentary Collection transactions

Negotiate draft Letters of Credit and provide commentary to internal / external stakeholders

Act as point of contact for clients conducting Import, Export, and Standby related business transactions

Exposure to syndicated lending credit facilities. Managing direct and indirect LC exposure.

Opine and negotiate credit agreement language with internal / external counsel as it relates to Letters of Credit

Act as Liaison between Trade Finance Services and technology support teams

Perform post audit review of Trade Finance Service products and services

The ideal candidate will :

Have a risk management and control focus with a high level of personal accountability and ownership of their role

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with Internal / External clients

Highly motivated professional, possessing strong analytical thinking, problem solving skills, and attention to detail

An interest and / or fungible skills in machine learning, robotic process automation, and application improvement

Demonstrate aptitude to question current procedures with a focus on continuous process improvement

Ability to respectfully challenge, make decisions and handle multiple projects or deadlines in a fast-paced environment

International banking experience

Work from Home Technology Requirements :

A secure home office environment that is free from background noise and distractions

A reliable private internet connection that is not supplied via cellular data or hotspot

A private network that is password protected where you have ownership or line of sight to every device on the network

Internet service must be provided by Cable or fiber Internet Service Provides (ISP)

Hotspots and satellite services are prohibited and do not meet performance criteria required for optimal agent / customer interactions

ISP download speeds on VPN must be at least 5Mbps, with 10 Mbps preferred

To validate ISP speeds from a Chrome browser, go to www.google.com , type Speed Test and run from the Google landing page

Both Hardwire and WiFi internet connections are acceptable as long as speed and security requirements are met

Capital One reserves the right to request proof of internet provider, speed and service package from the associate. Requirements are subject to change, as new systems and technology are delivered.

Capital One reserves the right to modify internet service requirements with sixty (60) days notice. Internet Service Provider specs can change by provider and location within the US.

If you are experiencing consistent issues with internet stability Capital One reserves the right to ask the agent to upgrade internet service to ensure a good customer experience.

Work from Home Living Requirements :

Candidates must live within approximately 50 miles of one of the hub locations based in 22102 or 28203 and be comfortable coming in person whenever required with no less than 24 hours notice.

Basic Qualifications :

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification

At least 2 years of banking experience

At least 2 years of experience in Trade Finance

Preferred Qualifications :

Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience

Prior experience working with International Trade (banking, freight forwarders, insurance underwriting)

3 years of International Banking experience

Certificate for Documentary Credit Specialist (CDCS) certification

3 years of experience with International Chamber of Commerce Rules and Regulations for Documentary Letters of Credit, Standby Letters of Credit, Documentary Collections, Uniform Rules for Reimbursement and International Standard Banking Practice
