Purpose of Role
The Logistics Lead is responsible for the communication of key issues and improvements to the Logistics Manager. They are also responsible for the safe and efficient performance of order processing systems in their assigned areas. Their work includes ensuring the safety, quality and efficiency of their assigned shift to include mentoring assigned associates. The Logistics Lead is to assist the Logistics Manager in evaluating and developing associates working in his/ her shift.
 
Principal Accountabilities
  • Oversee the order processing and loading operation to include:
  • Evaluate load times
  • Use best practices to maximize associates
  • Randomly audit completed orders to ensure accuracy
  • Provide support to the shipping clerks and coordinators
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision and positive attitude
  • Assist the Logistics Manager to ensure the effective functioning of the operation
  • Team liaison with the Logistics Manager to ensure that results are being delivered
  • Resource to the Logistics Manager for manpower and workload planning
  • Communicate with the department on critical issues that arise
  • Represent the department during daily meetings (cutting)
  • Apply sense of urgency and prioritization during high volume workdays 
  • Assist Shift Manager in writing procedures and updating as required
  • Drive accountability as needed amongst associates
  • Work with Logistics Manager to identify training needs for the team members 
  • Report issues to Customer Care pertaining to customer orders
  • Participate with the Logistics Manager in the implementation of improvement strategies that will help the operation perform more efficiently
  • Develop good working relationships with associates, peers, manager and other departments (includes Corporate Office)
  • Every associate at Red Collar Pet Foods has the responsibility for the achievement of quality and food safety
  • Participate and adhere to all food safety requirements, Quality Management Processes, and site safety programs ensuring that all standards are met
  • Demonstrate a quality culture in actions, words and spirit
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management
 
Key Functional Skills/Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of the order process within the established metrics.
  • Ability to operate a forklift
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all safety programs
  • Basic math skills
  • System analysis and data entry skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of timely order processing, maximize man hours and problem solving
  • Broad understanding of key factors (Safety, Quality and Associate Engagement). 
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating the efforts of a work team, action oriented 
  • Must be capable of working at elevated heights and or confined space
  • Wearing proper personal protective equipment (hair net, bump cap, ear plugs, safety shoes, and uniform)
  • Bending, stooping, twist, turn, standing for extended time periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 55 lbs.
  • Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes such as hot to cold, dust dirt and chemicals
  • Knowledge of local, federal, and industry regulations with regards to: Food Safety (GMP, HACCP), Food Quality (Product and Process)
  • Q&FS testing practices and procedures, QMP polices and SPC
  • Forklift assignments require OSHA certification and getting on and off frequently
  • work with scheduler to ensure we have and coordinate the staging of materials for upcoming week production
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Be 18 years of age or older 
  • Have a High school diploma, GED or equivalent education
  • Must be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in the English language
  • Working knowledge of Safety, Quality and Material Management Systems and procedures
  • Ability to read and understand the daily production run schedule, and execute to that plan
  • Ability to communicate to managers and team members any production, quality/food safety or other business critical information vital to operations and customer service
  • Ability to operate a forklift/OSHA certification
  • Successful completion of a substance screening and background check
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3 years of manufacturing experience operating a variety of machines
  • 2 years of work experience within manufacturing, or a technical and/or trade discipline
  • Working Knowledge of food safety, GMP, GHOP, HACCP, SPC
  • Demonstrated competency in computer and pc software including MS Office and email
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles
  • Experience with JD Edwards
