The Role
Payroll Specialist performs complex payroll support and processing duties for our Red 6 team in a multi-state and single-cycle environment in a collaborative team environment.
Essential Functions:
- Prepare and process payroll on bi-weekly payroll cycles
- Calculates and processes all voluntary and statutory deductions, including but not limited to taxes, child support orders, insurance, and garnishments
- Partner with our vendor who helps drive payroll administration
- Reviews and reconciles your own and team members' payroll records and per-pay previews for accuracy
- Reviews payroll for compliance with state and local wage and hour laws
- Maintains electronic files per firm policies and best practices
- Provides accurate information in a timely manner to internal and external client contacts
- Generates payroll and payroll-related reports as requested
- Assists with year-end reporting and other year-end activities
- Supervises and assists team members, participates in new hire training and evaluation of new hires during orientation period
- Is proactive and a problem solver
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Associate degree (Bachelors Preferred) in accounting or business required; an equivalent combination of responsible experience working in a payroll department and education may be substituted for minimum education requirement
- 1 – 3 years of progressively increasing responsibility in a small to medium payroll department
- Must have required knowledge and payroll experience
- Must be open to learning new technology and changing industry practices, and well as changes in federal and state wage and hour laws
- Must be detail oriented, able to perform basic mathematical operations, detect recording and calculation errors quickly and efficiently
- History of handling confidential information with discretion
- Read, write, communicate effectively, and understand directions
- Maintain company policies and procedures, offer suggestions for improved efficiency in all areas of the department
- Demonstrated ability to maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with team members, peers, and clients
- Model and practice the highest standards of ethical conduct
