What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Manager, Safety Actioning position at Reddit?
Safety Actioning is a team within Safety that builds services to action against policy violating content, users, subreddits at scale.They are on a mission to provide a safe experience to Reddit’s user base with actioning infrastructure that is reliable, auditable, and extendable for all current and future use cases. They aim to protect our users and mods by providing tooling and data for admins to make the best human and automated enforcement decisions. Team’s future projects include codifying policies, building out automation over an actioning platform layer that will leverage signals from Machine Learning models, data systems and user insights from sibling teams.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop, drive and execute a long term vision and tech strategy for Safety Actioning. Work cross-functionally with product, enforcement ops and other engineering managers to plan and execute on short term/ long term roadmaps.
- Participate in the full development cycle: design, development, test, experimentation, analysis, and launch. You’ll be reviewing code and design docs, giving feedback on product specs and generally helping out wherever is needed.
- Build, hire and lead a high-caliber team of predominantly backend engineers.
- Coach and mentor engineers on the team to further their professional development.
- Set and enable a culture of metrics led execution, with efficient processes and strong levels of transparency.
What we are looking for:
- 2 years experience in managing a team of software/ backend engineers (Preferably focused in Python and Go)
- 5 years of experience developing Internet-scale software, preferably in backend roles
- A strong track record of managing a team, including hiring, onboarding, and professional development.
- Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks and keep projects on schedule
- Results-oriented with a strong customer and business focus.
- Entrepreneurial and self-directed, demonstrated ability to innovate and bias toward action in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to communicate and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences.
- High empathy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to find compromise working across the entire engineering org.

Salary : $198,200 - $297,300
