About the Role: The purpose of this position is to perform the work associated with business accounts in the Business Compliance Division of the Taxation Department. Specifically, Business Compliance Auditors ensure filings and payments are posted accurately so that: 1) dollars received are distributed to the Agency’s member municipalities in a timely fashion; 2) taxpayers receive customer service in regards to their filings; and 3) compliance related to those matters is enforced.

Work Environment: You will be assigned to work primarily out of RITA’s Brecksville office, with the opportunity to work a blended schedule, meaning some days in the office, some days working from home. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Business accounts have two separate and distinct types of taxes that interrelate with each other: withholding taxes and net profit taxes. Employees in this position must understand the different filing requirements, tax system account types and related components and transactions, and distinct editing functions between withholding taxes and net profit taxes in order to properly adjust account liabilities as required and provide quality customer service. Employees in this position must keep abreast of both withholding and net profit municipal income tax laws, rules and regulations, and department processes related to each.
1. Processes, corrects and edits employer municipal income tax withholding statements, and/or net profit tax returns. Reviews supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness and compliance with applicable municipal income tax ordinances and Agency policies. Meets the department’s established processing goals; understands the difference between various duplicate form override errors; is able process refund returns with some direction.
2. Works all Business Department functions including applicable municipal income tax law, specific municipal ordinance information (including rules & regulations), website applications, and form preparation of both Net Profit and Withholding account types.
3. Provides customer service to taxpayers, tax professionals, and business representatives via; initiating verbal & writing correspondence, answering incoming phone calls, responding to faxes and letters, in order to answer questions and resolve issues including but not limited to tax return preparation, billing notice discrepancies, specific account information, and general tax information for both withholding and net profit accounts.
4. Researches and applies miscellaneous payments received for either account type.
5. Initiates verbal and written correspondence with taxpayers regarding information needed, changes in tax liabilities or additional account information.
6. Determines if penalty and interest charges are valid and if an account qualifies for a one-time abatement of all or some of the amount charged.
7. Performs research to contact businesses to verify filing compliance or obtain information to determine proper tax liability by municipal jurisdiction. Maintains this information in spreadsheets when necessary.
8. Analyzes account detail and member municipality provided information to ensure accurate filings are posted to Joint Economic Development Districts or Zones and communicates with RITA’s Member Services department regarding status and updates.
9. Compares amendments affecting withholding amounts to the corresponding w2 information received to determine when a refund is due back to a company versus due back to the employee.
10. Keeps abreast of both withholding and net profit municipal income tax laws, rules and regulations, and department processes related to each.
11. Performs other related work as assigned.

About You:
- High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college level course or vocational training in business administration.
- At least one (1) year previous experience and/or training involving data processing or tax related customer service; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
