Dental-ENT Assistant
Outpatient Center
A Brief Overview
Assists with Dental, ENT and special procedures. Performs technical and routine duties in the processing and distribution of medical/surgical supplies and equipment to include dental armamentarium and ENT procedures. Assembles, cleans and sterilizes instruments and prepares trays and packs supplies and instruments as directed.
What you will do
- Assists with Dental, ENT and special procedures as required in the delivery of patient care. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide care and meet patient population needs. * Reviews patient record prior to exam/procedure obtain and record identifying information required for the treatment and patient records. * Prepares patient for exam/procedure by seating and adjusting chair for convenient angle and draping patient. * Calms and reassures the patient so work can proceed expeditiously. * Determines the instruments and materials that will be needed during exam/procedure. Selects and places instruments appropriately on tray. * Passes equipment to the Dentist, Oral Surgeon and/or Anesthesiologist during exam as requested. * Mixes filling compounds such as composite and amalgam using standard practice or as requested by Dentist. * Places and positions suction tubes in patient's mouth using standard practice and following Dentist's instructions. * Takes X-rays as directed; processes and develops required images. * Aspirates operative area to remove blood and mucous. * Monitors patients to detect movement indicating shallow level of anesthesia. * Keeps account of sponges, needles and irrigating fluid utilized during exam/procedure. * Loads local anesthesia syringes. * Maintains the sterile field. * Records stage of work and instruments used during endodontic process.
- Sets up, operates and cleans equipment necessary to effectively carry out job functions. * Operates dental radiograph and dental panographic equipment. * Operates various instruments and equipment cleaning devices (i.e., ultrasonic cleaner, gas sterilizer, steam sterilizer, heat sealers, etc.). * Assembles, packages and processes routine and special instrument trays with emphasis on Oral Surgery armamentarium. * Cleans, sterilizes, wraps, stores and delivers special instrument trays for oral surgery/dental procedures/ENT procedure. * Inspects all trays for broken or damaged instruments and routes the instruments to proper person for repair. * Replaces damaged instruments on sets. * Assembles packages and processes instruments and supplies for gas and steam sterilization, for aeration, when applicable, using approved techniques and procedures outlined in directives and procedure manuals.
- Transports and issues supplies and equipment as required.
- Works effectively as a team member within department and with customers to provide quality service through communication, cooperation and collaboration. * Interacts and works collaboratively with patient/family/hospital staff in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with MEDCARE standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction. * Assists personnel when needed by performing tasks to keep department operating at peak efficiency levels. * Assists in orientation and supervision of new staff members and students when they provide patient care, treatment and services as part of their training.
- Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality and Compliance Policies).
- Maintains required department records, reports and files. Adheres to established department policies, procedures, objectives, compliance/quality improvement with consideration given to risk management, infection control and patient safety practices.
- Assists in care and maintains equipment and supplies. * Cleans and assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and utilizes supplies in a cost-effective manner. * Reports malfunction of equipment to supervisor.
- Completes required continuous training and education, including, department specific requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
- Completions of dental certification program. Required and
- Qualified by education, training or experience to meet the needs of patient population. Required
- CDA-Certified Dental Assistant Upon Hire Required
- At least 1 year experience Experience as a Dental Assistant or in a related area Required
