    HEALTH EDUCATION SPECIALIST

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    For the administration and coordination of health education.

    REPORTS TO:

    Building Principal

    QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

    • A Bachelor’s Degree with specific preparation in the assigned subject matter area.
    • A minimum of three years successful teaching
    • A valid State certificate to teach at the assigned level.
    • Evidence of ability to work effectively with superiors, co-workers and students.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Recommend curriculum changes.
    • Provide an orientation for teachers in Health Education.
    • Work with teachers and administrators to determine most effective programming and scheduling.
    • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
    • Assist with the preparation of the Health Curriculum Budget.
    • Emphasize the importance of an gain support for school health education within the school and community.
    • Help determine program needs and priorities, taking into consideration the needs assessment, the status of existing instruction and community expectations.
    • Provide support in identifying and upgrading content to be covered in the local K-12 curriculum.
    • Understand and interpret state laws mandating school health education and curriculum guidelines developed by the Department of Education.
    • Assist with the design of inservice workshops for administrators and teachers to provide information, review new resources, explore new teaching strategies and improve communication among all involved publics.
    • Provide leadership and/or necessary support to design and implement health promotion and wellness activities for school staff.
    • Assist with the identification, evaluation and selection of relevant resources to support the instructional program.
    • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
    • Working with multiple schools and grade levels.

    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation.
