Position Description: Perform duties inherent to a RN in the respective department.
Assess the number and level of personnel needed to provide quality patient care and adjusts staffing and assignments appropriately. May call in or send home staff as deemed necessary. Will coordinate staffing within all departments of Surgical Services (Surgery, Day Surgery, PACU, and Central Processing).
Assumes the responsibility for the direction of patient care, makes immediate administrative decisions for Surgical Services Departments utilizing knowledge of the policies and procedures of the hospital. May contact the Director of Surgical Services or the Vice President of Patient Services for clarification of policies and procedures or consultation on problems as needed.
Performs the functions of a professional nurse leader in assessing, planning, directing, and evaluating patient care with an age-specific focus. Is responsible for managing all personnel, staffing, supplies, and equipment throughout the Surgical Services Departments.
Assumes the responsibility for daily flow of the surgical schedule. Responsible for initial assignment of staff to cases and for making needed changes throughout the day.
Acts in a leadership role as the Orthopedic coordinator.
Assumes the responsibility for ensuring all orthopedic supplies and equipment are available for scheduled procedures.
Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, and must hold current RN licensure in the state of Indiana. Possess Basic Life Support certification. Willingness to consult with physician, pharmacist, or other medical professional if need arises. Other certifications might be required depending on department policies.
