Job summary
We are looking for a qualified individual who can perform as a Production Planner/Buyer and thrive in a collaborative environment with internal customers in sales, customer service, vendors, and operations. Your role will be key to ensuring goods are produced or purchased in a timely manner to support the committed schedule and the company’s financial forecasts. This Planner/Buyer job location is Elkridge, Maryland.
Responsibilities and duties
Planning function:
Develop daily production schedules and prioritize manpower, equipment, and raw materials to ensure customer order deadlines are met.
Monitors daily schedule status to ensure they will finish on time and within budget and communicate scheduling problems or concerns to management.
Deliver clear-to-build status, identify materials shortages, and validate work order integrity.
Led daily meetings with the operations team to review customer orders, backlog status, components shortages. and delivery schedules.
Drive and meet monthly OTD (on-time delivery) and productivity goals.
Understand and implement different forecast strategies and analytics.
Response to quotation requests from the customer support team and provide materials availability and manufacture lead time on products.
Analyze inventory movements, and maintain safety stock for sub-assemblies based on overall consumption.
Prepare and submit production order status, productivity, and OTD reports.
Purchasing function:
Determine purchase requirements and convert them to purchase orders using the SAP system.
Evaluate and negotiate quotes from vendors while ensuring the best price, quality, delivery schedule, and freight costs.
Review purchase orders for accuracy and completeness and obtain proper approvals prior to their release.
Coordinate with internal sales/customer service to ensure delivery schedules meet customer commitments.
Proactively monitor vendor order confirmations, ship dates, and tracking information.
Coordinate with suppliers regarding order revisions, damage claims, rejections, and losses, return of materials, over-shipment, cancellations, and specification changes.
Coordinate with customs brokers for the release of import shipments from US customs.
Familiarize with basic product specifications related to purchase orders.
Analyze inventory movements and assist in setting up component restocking levels.
Interact regularly with the Warehouse department to resolve discrepancies between purchase orders and incoming shipments.
Work with Accounting on discrepancies between POs and vendor invoices.
Create/set up new vendors, part numbers, and pricing in the ERP system and collaborates with the MDM team in maintaining relevant master data related to Purchasing.
Solve order-related problems and communicate with Purchasing Manager on a timely basis.
Qualifications and skills:
At least 3 Planner/Buyer experience.
Familiar SAP PP, MO, and Purchasing module is a must.
A high level of integrity is required.
Self-motivated, independent, willing to accept responsibility, and have an inherent ability to prioritize and multi-task while working under time constraints.
Above-average analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
Good negotiating skills, good judgment, and attention to detail.
Team player with excellent interpersonal, and communication skills, both written & verbal.
Proficient in MS Office applications, especially Excel (Formulas, Pivot Table, V-lookup).
Experience in a fiber optic environment is a plus.
