Job Description Summary The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for performing daily accounting activities, including reviewing general ledger journal entries, balance sheet and income statement accounts for the Company’s portfolio of limited service, extended stay and select full-service hotels. This role supervises a team of Staff Accountants to resolve more complex general accounting related inquiries and issues escalated by the team. This position will also support the Accounting Supervisor or Assistant Controller with various financial reporting and accounting needs. Job Description Provides oversight to a daily revenue reconciliation between Opera (PMS) trial balance and the amounts in the financial systems software Approves revenue journal postings in general ledger Reviews balance sheet reconciliation workpapers prepared by Staff Accountants Prepares and posts journal entries throughout the month as well as during month-end close, including accruals and adjustments Prepares month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial statements Partners with hotel personnel to investigate any material variances identified through monthly trend analysis Prepares and processes monthly management fee entries Supports the Accounting Supervisor or Assistant Controller with financial audits and capital spend budgeting activities as necessary Works with Accounting Supervisor or Assistant Controller to implement and monitor controls and procedures related to period-end adjustments, intercompany, financial reporting etc. Provides input to process design and drive continuous process improvement focused on standardization and quality improvement Supports Staff Accountant with development of professional and technical skills related to day-to-day accounting and financial reporting activities Key Competencies Required Technical: Strong understanding of financial statements Significant experience interpreting and producing financial status reports Demonstrate knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with ability to research and recommend appropriate actions Understanding of USALI standards Behavioral (Leadership) Experience managing junior resources Ability to manage performance within a team Able to motivate individuals in a positive way to perform to the best of their ability Comfortable managing the administrative aspect of leadership along with daily work activities Behavioral (Do the Right Thing) Treat each other with respect Commit to the team Be authentic and real Communicate openly, honestly and clearly Behavioral (Go Beyond) Exceed expectations Hold yourself and others accountable Continuously improve Dig deeper and find ways to succeed Additional Job Description Benefits Sonesta recognizes that benefits play a vital role in helping ensure the health and financial security of employees and their families.
