SUMMARY

Relay Graduate School of Education seeks an experienced Cloud Engineer to help write Relay Graduate School’s next chapter and work with a team that maintains mission-critical infrastructure and is building next-generation cloud solutions to drive equity and empower the next generation of exceptional teachers, leaders, and students. Reporting to the Managing Director of Technology, the Cloud Engineer will manage Relay’s cloud infrastructure and will be accountable for ensuring the high performance, security, and availability of AWS and Azure IaaS and PaaS cloud infrastructure.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Manage cloud infrastructure design, deployment, maintenance, monitoring, and management tasks ensuring the high performance, security, and availability of business-critical cloud infrastructure
• Manage cloud infrastructure migrations and upgrades ensuring continuity of service during cutovers
• Develop integrations, APIs, and data pipelines to enhance cloud infrastructure value continually improving Relay’s student and staff experience
• Manage cloud infrastructure access management including permissions, secrets, principals, roles, controls, and security tokens
• Work closely with stakeholders to recommend and implement improvements and support cloud infrastructure best practices
• In partnership with the Director of Project Management, execute project planning, tracking, and delivery for cloud infrastructure services solutions
• Create and manage technical environment, specification, and process documentation
• Complete internal testing of new build and configuration items; participate in or lead various testing efforts (e.g. user acceptance)
• In partnership with the  Director of Project Management, manage the project  prioritization, planning, and delivery
• Serve as a technical AWS and Azure Integration Services SME proactively offering guidance to stakeholders and responding to their technical questions
• Consistently strive to grow and learn the latest cloud technologies and share knowledge with the team
• In partnership with the Managing Director of Technology and the Chief Information Officer, serve as a team leader on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion; including technology, at the forefront of the technical implementation
• Manage all technical consultants, contracts, and invoices

QUALIFICATIONS

First and foremost, the Cloud Engineer must share the Relay community’s commitment to working together to improve student growth and achievement through phenomenal teacher preparation grounded in diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism. This includes providing teacher preparation programs that set novice teachers up to succeed in the classroom from day one; leadership programs that train new and veteran school and district leaders to best serve their school communities; and teacher-facing professional education that provides ongoing learning to educators. Additionally, for this position we’re looking for candidates that possess a combination of the following skills:

• 1-2 years experience managing cloud IaaS and PaaS solutions, preferably Amazon Web Services and/or Microsoft Azure
• 1-2 years experience with integration and API development, preferably using Mulesoft and/or Azure Integration Services
• 1-2 years experience developing ETL, integration, and reporting solutions using SQL, Rest APIs, JSON, XML, and C#
• Proficient with cloud integration services, preferably Azure Logic Apps, Service Bus, Event Grid and API Management
• Familiarity with Git, Git Flow, Azure DevOps
• Familiarity with cloud monitoring and logging solutions, preferably on Azure or AWS
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Functions, Key Vault, and Data Factory
• Familiarity with AWS Elastic Beanstalk, EC2, Route 53, SNS, and RDS 
• Familiarity with issue & project tracking software, preferably Azure DevOps
• Familiarity with help desk software, preferably Zendesk
• A passion for building solutions that enable teams to work more effectively
• A proven history of working cross-functionally with a diverse set of stakeholders and executing project plans that delivered value
• Exemplary communication skills, especially around consensus-building and stakeholder engagement
• Ability to handle shifting priorities and prioritize work accordingly, including navigating ambiguous situations effectively
• Experience managing direct reports and/or consultants

COMPENSATION

Relay’s compensation philosophy is to pay competitively for the education nonprofit market and ensure equity across the institution. Starting compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors including the new hire’s qualifications and their region’s cost of labor. 

The starting salary range for this role is $80,000 - $90,000. The hired candidate can expect to be placed within this range based on their prior experience, as well as the cost of labor for the region they live in. New hires typically are not eligible for a salary at the high end of this range if they live in a region with a low or medium cost of labor. Lastly, Relay is striving towards internal pay equity throughout our organization. Because of this, we do not negotiate salary offers.
