Position Purpose: This position retrieves, abstracts, and enters clinical and demographic information into the stroke registry database in accordance with current American Heart/American Stroke Association-Get With The Guidelines (GWTG) coding guidelines.
The incumbent is responsible for reporting quality and system issues to the Stroke Coordinator that affect the integrity of the Stroke program.
Nature and Scope: This position is responsible for obtaining, abstracting, correcting, and entering patient data both concurrently and retrospectively on patients who meet the criteria for stroke data entry as established by the American Heart/American Stroke Association,
Renown Regional Medical Center and the standards that are required for maintaining
the Primary Stroke Center Certification as outlined by the Joint Commission.
The incumbent demonstrates ability to analyze and interpret all available patient data to determine opportunities for improvement and adherence to the Stroke Core Measure Set as outlined by the Joint Commission.
This position uses ICD-9/ICD-10 codes that are relevant to the Stroke Core Measure set of required measures as well as the GWTG. This position reviews and provides analysis on the
metrics necessary to achieve the Best Practices as outlined by the American Stroke Association Target Stroke Initiative.
This position acts as a resource to the Stroke Coordinator, Stroke Medical Director, neurologists, and administration for retrieval of registry data and maintenance of the Primary Stroke Center certification by The Joint Commission.
The incumbent may handle routine requests, follow-up phone calls, generate reports, assist researchers in gathering information for stroke related studies, and provides guidance in the appropriate use of registry data.
The incumbent assists with stroke education efforts to increase stroke awareness in the community. Complications, opportunities for improvement and physician related issues are among the trends and core measures
monitored and reported to the Stroke Coordinator and Stroke Medical Director.
In consultation with the Stroke Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for timely chart analysis and completion for submission of data to the State of Nevada according to the new Nevada Stroke Registry SB-196 (effective January
1, 2016) and to the Get With the Guidelines Data bank according to specified criteria and time frames.
Excellent communication skills, the ability to be flexible and function in a fast-changing environment and work under stress along with ability to maintain strict confidentiality is essential.
The incumbent must be familiar with HIPPA standards and able to communicate such to physicians, hospital staff, patients and all other customers.

Requirements - Required and/or Preferred Education: Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Experience: Requires 2 years clinical experience in health care, prefer neurology or acute care.
Working knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10 codes, and pathophysiology preferred. License(s): Ability ro obtain and maintain a State of Nevada license as an LPN or RN. Certification(s): NIHSS (National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke Scale) preferred.
NIHSS required within 60 days of hire. Computer / Typing: Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days,
the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
