What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Technician I position at Research Lab?
This position will be responsible for performing and supporting research on host-parasite interactions during malaria by supporting the laboratory’s insectary and lab animal programs. The incumbent will be responsible for organizing and executing the laboratory’s animal experiments and ensuring that trainees and other staff have samples for their experiments. The incumbent will also assist in the rearing of Anopheline mosquitoes for research purposes. Other duties related to running the laboratory will also be assigned, which may include ordering, inventory, etc. The incumbent will be trained to do all essential tasks and will have the opportunity to develop essential research skills as time allows. This position will involve working with multiple species of animals and some weekend and holiday work. Individuals with prior insect rearing experience and/or veterinary assistant or technician skills are particularly encouraged to apply.
Abilities and/or Competencies
- Previous experience working with rodents, including injections, blood collections, anesthesia monitoring.
- Previous experience working with large animals including injections, blood collections, anesthesia monitoring.
- Ability to calculate drug dosages and administer the drugs.
- Experience managing clinical health records for laboratory animals.
- Experience rearing mosquitoes.
- Ability to organize, schedule, and manage multiple lab animal studies.
- Experience reading and writing animal user protocols.
- Learn new procedures and solve routine technical problems as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment and laboratory records.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a fully productive, cooperative team member.

Pay: $31,500.00 - $37,000.00 per year
