JOB SUMMARY
The Community Outreach Specialist 1 is responsible for overseeing all aspects of community outreach and violence prevention efforts for Resource and Crisis Center of Galveston County (RCCGC). These duties may include sexual violence and domestic violence prevention involving youth engagement; community education; awareness building; volunteer participation recruitment, training, supervision, and scheduling; and special event planning, participation in marketing and fundraising for direct services programs coordination, organization and promotion of the direct intervention services that RCC provides.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Outreach and Prevention
- Develop and conduct domestic violence and sexual assault prevention trainings.
- Develop and disseminate educational guides & trainings for professional groups and general community populations.
- Work with community members and organizations where prevention programming is being implemented to implement community change strategies (coalition building, policy education, social norms change, and/or community mobilization efforts) as part of prevention efforts.
- Assess the needs of the community in which prevention programming will be implemented, as well as the needs of underserved populations within that community, through outreach and research to effectively meet their diverse needs.
- Communicate with relevant community members, and leaders, and other key stakeholders in prevention programming to engage them in and garner support for prevention, education and client services programming.
- Facilitate educational seminars and professional trainings, as appropriate, for participants in prevention programming.
- Participate in professional development by attending annual prevention trainings.
- Participate in and provide opportunities for other prevention staff to cultivate relationships with other prevention workers and allied professionals throughout the state.
- Ensures all grantor monthly reports are completed in an organized and timely manner.
- Maintain all necessary statistical data.
- Other duties as designated and assigned.
Fundraising and Marketing
- Promote positive branding and RCCGC image in the community.
- Establishes a marketing plan and implements the plan for the agency.
- Assist in retaining existing supporters and assess markets to establish new support resources.
- Participate in community functions that can generate ongoing or new donor support.
- Participate in donation drives and events and sort in-kind donations for various special direct services program events for the organization which support our direct intervention services and prevention opportunities (Santa for Survivors, Back to School, etc).
- Organize community awareness campaigns such as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month and National Crime Victims’ Right’s Week, and other similar victim of violence awareness campaign activities.
- Educate the community on RCCGC services, sexual assault and domestic violence, and all other topics relevant to the mission of RCCGC.
- Assist the Development & Outreach Manager with the agency’s fundraising events.
Volunteers
- Recruit, train, supervise, and schedule all volunteers for RCCGC.
- Establish relationships with volunteer programs from universities, clubs, civic groups, community groups and with individuals.
- Interface with RCCGC personnel regarding inter-departmental volunteer needs.
- Attend and may present at relevant conferences, volunteer fairs and organizations.
- Plan, organize and implement volunteer recognition events.
- Maintain and update the volunteer training manual.
WORK SCHEDULE
Forty (40) hours per week, Monday through Friday as discussed with the supervisor on scheduling, where occasional weekend and evening hours may be required.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various office machines and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to speak and hear clearly. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift approximately 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to drive and possess a valid Texas driver’s license. The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job which is primarily an office environment.
SUPERVISOR AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position reports to the Development & Outreach Manager. There are no direct reports to this position.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Services, Education, or a related field in socio-economic development; will consider combination of college coursework in education/development and minimum two (2) years of violence prevention services and outreach work.
- Must possess an active, valid, state-issued driver license.
- Demonstrated experience in special event development and promotion and in volunteer recruitment and management.
- Knowledge of issues surrounding domestic violence and sexual assault a plus.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Advanced computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), including experience with contact list databases.
- Experience with graphic design applications is a plus (example Canva).
- Must be able to travel to meetings, other locations and work sites.
- Strong communication skills - verbal and written; attentive listener.
- Highly organized and efficient worker; skilled at multi-tasking.
- Ability to manage priorities, multiple projects, workflow and meet deadlines.
- Professional integrity, sense of responsibility and accountability.
- Must understand and embody RCC’s mission and culture and the ability to maintain appropriate rapport and boundaries with staff and volunteers in all circumstances.
- Possesses effective inter-personal skills and the ability to relate well with individuals from a variety of socio-economic and cultural groups.
- Clearance of a criminal background check.
