What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Machinist / Programmer position at ResourceMFG?
CNC Experts should be able to:
– Provide accurate estimates for material usage, tooling requirements, fixture requirements, and cycle times to support bids/estimates for sales inquiries. – Receive a print and sufficient stock materials and take those and single handedly, without supervision, produce 100% finished parts that are:
o – On Time
o – To Specification
o – Inspected/De-burred/Cleaned and ready for delivery
This requires ability and proficiency in CAD/CAM programming, primarily only being given PDF drawings. In some cases we are given customer provided solid models, (.STEP files), but more often than not, we only have PDF drawings. We provide Fusion to use for programming CNC machines. We provide Mastercam to use for programming the Wire EDM machine.
CNC Experts should also:
- Have robust understanding of:
- Feed rates for multiple material types, primarily metals
- Fixturing / Work holding (how to chuck up on something quickly and cut chips)
- Order of operations (what features to machine first so that the part turns out right)
- Heat Treating, Grinding, and other Outside Processes o Inspection methods and equipment
- Metric to Standard conversion
- Communicate clearly and effectively when there is information missing on a print
- Communicate clearly and quickly when there are any issues that cause a part to be out of specification and delay the delivery
