JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing and other medical staff, will perform a range of duties related to the care of patients at Restpadd Psychiatric Health Facility. These duties will be conducted in adherence to sound ethical and professional standards.
We are currently looking to fill one full-time position but also have open per-diem positions as well. In addition to regular pay, we also offer a night shift and charge nurse differential.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A LVN/LPT, works within the PHF unit caring for psychiatric patients. The Nurse will work under the supervision of the physician. The Nurse performs comprehensive assessments on new patients evaluating both medical and mental health factors, creates a health care plan, and monitor’s progress. The Nurse will order, administer, secure and maintain inventory of PHF medications, as well as observe and record for potential side effects of medications. The Nurse will report on his/her patient’s progress in the morning team meetings.
The Nurse will work within a locked PHF unit. The Nurse tasks may involve volatile patients and/or family members.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Professional nursing principles, procedures, and techniques used in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients.
- Social, psychological, and physical factors of mental and emotional disorders.
- Medical and psychological terminology. Medications, including psychotropic drugs, and effects on psychiatric patients.
- Control, preparation and administration of medications.
- State of California laws and regulations for the nursing profession.
- Regulations pertaining to psychiatric nursing and the treatment of the mentally and emotionally disturbed patients.
- Theories, principles, and techniques of group and individual psychotherapy.
- Symptoms and behavior patterns of emotionally disturbed mentally ill patients.
- Medical and psychiatric emergency procedures.
- Basic computer programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to be highly efficient, organized and accurate in work
- Ability to exercise initiative, judgement and decision-making skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A valid California license as an LVN/LPT
- BLS certification is required.
- Experience in a psychiatric PHF is preferred.
- The Nurse will complete required continuing education per licensing requirements and periodically attend meetings and trainings to enhance job knowledge and skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must pass a physical exam, drug screen, and have an annual TB test.
